TL Notes: Rather than the "ultimate pick up line", the question asks about 決め台詞(kime zerifu). 決め(kime) means "to decide" and 台詞(serifu) in this context means a "line of dialog". So this is more like the "decisive line" that made someone fall in love with you, "ultimate pick up line" is how I've translated in this context since I couldn't think of anything better in English. Sorry to the guy in the picture if you ever watch this somehow. I'm sure everyone looks kind of strange while doing this pose while defending in basketball, but the idea of Towa kind of crab walking towards the girl like this while trying to act like an ikemen at the same time had me laughing for ages. At 2:47 if your unsure about what a kabedon is: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kabedon . As far as I know there's not really an equivalent way to say it in English without fully describing so I left it as is. Later on I've shortened it to "giving her the don" since this is close to what Towa actually says and I thought it sounded funny. At 3:18 Towa refers to 起承転結 (kishoutenketsu) which I've talked about in notes before in the past. This is a structure of telling a story derived from old Chinese poetry. 起(ki) means "to wake up", 承(shou) in this context means "to develop", 転(ten) means "to rotate" and 結(ketsu) means "to conclude". So overall the structure is: ki - beginning shou - development ten - plot twist ketsu - conclusion What Towa says is この起承転結。結!(kono kishoutenketsu. ketsu!) meaning "This is the ketsu (conclusion) of this kishoutenketsu!" I've changed this slightly to "conclusion of the romantic tale", since there's not really equivalent term for kishoutenketsu in English. You'll see kishotenketsu referenced reasonably often in Japanese conversations. People sometimes say stuff like "You've skipped out the shou and the ten!" Or "You've skipped from the ki to the ketsu!" To mean you've missed out a part of a story, or reached a conclusion to quickly. At 3:31 Towa uses あるある (aru aru). Which is a slang way to say something happens a lot. You'll often see this spammed in the chat of Japanese streamers when they say something relatable. You can also put it at the end of something to mean "things that often happen in relation to" e.g 英語あるある(eigo aru aru) means "things that happen a lot when you're speaking/learning English". At 3:55 Towa uses トゥンク(tunku). This is a kind of "meme" way of saying ドキドキ(doki doki), which is just an onomatopoeia sound for the beating of the heart and can be used to mean "heart racing".

can you explain why you didn't translate "kusogaki" in your Oozora police Nene clip?

Wow, your translation of "トゥンク(tunku)" was really good, I just went back and re-watched that part and I instantly connected the sound and meaning! Thank you alot!

@@Memotag There's always times as a translator when you run into the problem of terms not having an equivalent phrase in the language you're trying to translate them to. When you encounter this problem you're faced with a choice, leave the term as it is and explain it in a note. Or give the best (in my case) English translation for the term you can think of. I tend to decide on the latter most of the time (for example my translation of "kishoutenketsu" in this video), but there are also times when I think that leaving the term as it is serves better (like leaving "kabedon" untranslated in this video). "Kusogaki" is right on the edge of having a one to one translation of "little shit", however the English phrase comes off as a lot less playful and harsher in tone. Due to this there's actually a historical precedent of someone translating a Hololive member saying "kusogaki" to another member as "little shit" and it being misconstrued as an insult. That started some rumors that they were on bad terms. This is the main reason I left it this way (this was almost 100% overly cautious), at that time I wasn't doing notes like I did now and I forget to include one which was definitely a mistake. There'll always be terms that will be left "untranslated" when you're watching "otaku" type content. Words like "tsundere", "otaku", "gacha" etc. are all Japanese terms that it's much easier to just leave as they are and explain them, rather than give a really convoluted English equivalent. Considering this I'm not sure why leaving the term "kusogaki" untranslated seemed so controversial to some.

NTR = MC didn’t win. If the MC is the one serving as crying shoulder it’s not NTR. And generally the MC is supposed to be the "good boy". Morals in fiction can vary A LOT depending on who’s an important character and how the author wants you to feel about a certain character.
