This is the knife I carry when going through heavily wooded areas or through hunting grounds. Oftentimes there are really tall weeds and other brush that grow there and I like to use this knife as a tool to clear a path as I make my way through. If I’ve killed an animal, I could dress it pretty easily with this knife. The handle feels amazing and it has a crap ton of stabbing power so it would be a really effective combat knife. If I was carrying a knife in a combat zone, I’d most likely choose this one along with a smaller and sharper neck knife for other purposes. Smaller knives can still mess someone up and they can also serve better as a better cutting and slicing tool than a thicker knife like the SP-1. I’d keep the smaller one just as sharp if not sharper though. I’d likely want a more high quality steel for the neck knife that would work against corrosion if it’s being used more. It should be easy to sharpen as well but it should stay razor sharp for at least a few days of use, and I’d like it if they used the same steel that mora uses for the robust.

thanx again mayor . ide forgotten the ontario stick tangs in those rubber handles loosend up til seeing this . i had one brand new years ago that loosend just from slashing it around quickly without touching anything . they can keep it . i'll stick with my cold steel leatherneck in its excellent securex sheath . sits right next to my coldsteel large voyager which is a great rock solid folder . ive not liked every cs ive bought , but these 2 mentioned knives i give 5 stars to both .

Same here, had an Ontario Kukri with that same handle. It had already play frok doing nothing with it. Many people have experienced this wobbly handle problem I rather have a Ka-bar. Yes the tang can bend, but not if you wack on it trying to split logs with it.. It's a killing tool first and utility second.

I have been using this knife a lot on canoe trips and doing and teaching survival. It is true that the handle can come loose from the tang with hard use but solved that by filling the inside with super glue. I also did some mods to the blade, handle and sheath. making it a bit more useful for batoning and finer work chocking your hand up to the blade and it will do these tasks and stays sharp. If it gets dull it is also very easy to re-sharpen in the field.

I have one of this, 8 years still working as new. I convexed the edge and is way better now. I paid $19 bucks 8 years ago on ebay (I dont like very much the sheath, but is not bad at all). Also now, almost 2018 is still really good knife option for the price.
@shawnwells5719 Жыл бұрын
Just picked one of these up on Amazon for $27. Good knife, but Ontario started making them out of 1075 instead of 1095 some time ago. The reduced edge retention is an issue for a utility knife, not so much for a combat blade. I like the ergonomics of the SP-1 much better than the KABAR, and it's a lot less expensive, although the KABAR remains a 1095 blade.

The play can easily be fixed with black silicone sealant. If it can fill in gaps and holes in boats and provide a strong waterproof bond, it can easily do the same for a knife. The black color matches the rubber handle perfectly too. I used it in a pig sticker that wasn't sealed tightly enough to the blade around the handle and it worked like a charm.

I'm debating between kabar and an OKC sp6. I'm worried about the handle coming off from the spec plus line and I'm wanting to carry this horizontal across small of back on belt and the sheathe ain't set up for that. Has any of the handles shown any sort of loosening and do you know any way to attach sheathe horizontally without having to do custom kydex? (Unless there's some premade kydex you know of for the sp6).
@MayorFuglycools8 жыл бұрын
So far, my SP6 handle has not come loose, and I have used it quite a bit. I know of someone who threw them. The Ontario broke at the tang, the Ka-bar did not.. Also the wobbly handles are epidemic with the Ontario Spec Plus handles. Some even slide backwards when chopping. Hey, I just posted a comment on Bladeforums.com DId you know that Ontario changed the steel from 1095 to 1075??? Ontario didn't even let anybody know but changed the specs on one of their websites when you order them. What do you think about this??? You might have to get new SP knives and test them all over again!! You can't get any of their knives in 1095 anymore except the 498, OKC3S, and the Freedom Fighter 6 . This change took place 3 years ago so if you want a 1095 SP-6 go for the FF6, it's still 1095 and has a Kabar-like Kraton handle with their old leather/Cordura sheath, not the ugly bulky thing they have on their newer knives!! Ontario, you're a big disappointment to me!!

I know, A lot of people think that their knife is 1095. Ontario's website shows the changes but pretty much almost everybody that sells Ontario knives don't even know and still advertise them as 1095!! That's crazy! I'm very disappointed in Ontario and they need to lower their prices not raise them if they are going to use 1075. That's pretty sneaky of them..

You can tell he’s never been professionally trained... a.) he only uses one arm when fighting (even when knife fighting, you utilize both arms) and b.) anyone with any training will know/tell you that you never want to throw your knife in a combat or survival situation.
