@cgecko3 Жыл бұрын
One thing I noticed when watching Before Orel: Trust is just how terrified Clay really is to be a father. In it he acts arguably more unhinged than his season 3 counterpart and less like his season 1 and 2 self where he gives off the illusion of being calm and composed albeit wrong and abusive. There's subtle moments like him being nervous when Shapey is being born to him constantly trying to avoid talking to Orel, "Why should I try and teach that kid anything???!!!" He tries so desperately to avoid his responsibility as a father and you can tell it's bringing up alot of unresolved trauma as Bloberta mentions spanking. It isn't until we get his conversation with his father that we see the Clay we all know from season 1. After meeting Arthur again his actions become fuelled by hate and he's more assertive with Orel, before than he seemed genuinely afraid to be around him and even more so to act as a father to him. It really goes to show how fucked he is for how he deals with his feelings and yet in some ways those same feelings are probably almost relatable to people experiencing fatherhood for the first time. God he is just such an interesting little specimen love him or hate him you can't deny he is probably one of the best written villains out there.

The first season is what I've come to refer to as the Adult Swim Pilot Season, as in its an extremely exaggerated parody in order to get on the air to begin with. The first season is extremely exaggerated with its plots/characters and boils down to "Religion Bad" at points but then the series develops its footing. Same can be said for Venture Bros, where the first season is basically just a Johnny Quest parody until Season 2 when it becomes some of the best television ever aired
@okfinebethatway2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I didn't think about it until after I made this video but The Venture Bros. is a great comparison for a show with a decent first season that really ramps up in scope and quality in subsequent seasons. The first half of the first season of Bojack Horseman is kind of like that too.

I would say, one of Moral Orel's strengths, funny enough, is how short it is, and how enjoyable each episode is, even the dark ones. It set a benchmark for depth in animated writing. They do a lot of visual, as well as vocal storytelling. A lot of attention to detail in the set pieces and audio cues. Most importantly, though, the storytelling and ideas they represented. These ideas were ground in a grim, cruel, but very real truth that most shows fail to capture. It takes a genius to represent these ideas effectively while also being spectacularly humorous, especially at the time Morel Orel aired. It's one of the best examples of ideology in animation history, and it's surprisingly easy to view it online nowadays. Anyone who is too nervous to tackle a longer show like Bojack Horseman or Venture Brothers might want to consider Moral Orel first. It's by no means an entry level show, but...it's one you'll be glad you watched whether you were ready or not. It's teachings are valuable.

I'd like to point out that episodes 3 and 4 establish a continuity between them. In "Waste", Orel's urine ends up giving the other kids a performance boost and became addictive, hence why Danielle wanted Orel to keep giving it to them. This is because Oral was flushing Crack from the last episode out of his system. Its little touches like these that make Moral Orel one of the most tightly written shows ever made.

Personally for me i feel like "charity" is hilarious, the concept of sweet little orel thinking hes helping the poor by developing the addiction so twisted but enjoyable. And the episode really shows how little orels parents pay attention. but by far the best serious episode in my opinion is by far "The best christmas ever" it really shows how toxic clay and bloberta truely are for both eachother and by themselves. Where bloberta openly and shamelessly admits that shapey isnt clays son and clay just runs away from his issues and bloberta will simply abandon orel leaving him to only have trust in his faith in god in which he gets no answer
@elleofhearts8471 Жыл бұрын
crazy to blatantly to admit Clay isn't the father then wordlessly get back together with him with no acknowledgement of what shapey's paternity means for the family or how it squares with their faith or marriage. No closure, no nothing.

My take is that Morel Orel begins by giving the impression that it’s a satire/criticism on religious extremism and hyper conservatism. (It is of course) However, as the show goes on it’s clear that morel Orel is more of a commentary on the cycle of abuse and how miserable people will often outsource their misery to those around and harm others. Or they will internalize it and harm themselves. In an extremely restrictive community where any healthy support systems, coping mechanisms, and self exploration is seen as sinful, the characters seem to consistently self destruct or try to destroy others. The only character we see in the show who is interested in preventing the pain they experienced from hurting others and ending a cycle is Stephanie (when she was set on getting Orel to the dance). Another reason why she is such a breath of fresh air in the show.

I don’t think it’s about people using religion to wrong ends. The comedy started by inverting expectations of a format. The change in the show is about people causing pain to themselves and each other by failing to be compassionate, patient, and loving with themselves and others posing an irony against the Christian church that ostensibly dominates the town which should be encouraging these in the people. Oral keeps his faith because ultimately he knows what God actually wants and recognizes his ability to emulate Christianity better than what the adults introduced. The loss of innocence is recognizing the adults he trusted are deeply fallible and maturity is his creating the life he always wanted.

I'm not a big fan of Abstinence, it would probably be in the C Tier somewhere below Trigger. I'm not a big fan of any of the cut scripts if I'm being sincere. I think if they were all made, most of them would've been a blemish on the nearly perfect third season we got. Sad the show got cancelled, but I'm glad they cut the episode count back to 13.

I get this idea that they were going to model iggy pops face in claymation so it’d look like stop motion Jesus

51:25 , they were originally going to rename it to " moralton " and expand on it in season 4 - 5 but it was canceled. I dont like that fact, as they entirely greenlit " alone " and easily couldnt have and let the show continue. Its a big part of the show, but it also shows adult swim mostly cares about the backlash they got.

Moral is probably the only show I can't make a worse to best episode list to, Because when u get to season 3 season 1 and season 2 become better somehow, like season 1 is so good its like a dream of innocent in orel mind,, season 2 is like a kid starting to wake up from that dream and season 3 is like the reality of that kid life, I watch maybe 5 episodes when it 1st came out I was a kid so I though it was cool. For some reason a few months ago I said let me check the whole show out, God best decision I made in 2022. Cause it probably my favorite adult swim show/ cartoon/ claymation/ entertainment right now. It's really fighting with Spectacular spiderman for me as number 1 and 2 show

I think a very good show, and although I thought I had seen all of them, there must be a few I haven't seen. Thanks
