The scientific name of this tree is Quercus macrocarpa, macrocarpa means that it has very large seeds. It likes to grow in open grasslands on the edge of prairies and runs through the Great Plains of the American continent from just north of the Canadian border to the Gulf Coast of Texas. I have several of them on my property. They are slow growing trees that are very resistant to fire.

Here I am in Denver Colorado watching a Burr oak from my home state of Oklahoma being cut up by a sawmill in somewhere in Japan, amazing!

That log was solid and healthy all the way through. Serious checking @ the pith, but that’s typical. Great furniture tree!

That is some amazingly straight continuous grain. In table form I would probably be checking underneath to see if it was fake plastic.

Landscapers in the Mid-Atlantic region of the United states have been planting Bur Oak in upscale office developments for the past 20 years. Handsome trees that are not maples or American Sugar gums. The largest I've seen were +/- 17m.
