You want to destroy the confidence of the guy who is clearly the future of your program for a game that they are obviously not going to recover? You think Casey Thompson goes out there and wins you a game from 18 points behind? God no. Casey Thompson is not a good quarterback. Sure he has that record (against a horrific OU defense) but there is a reason he didn't keep his last two jobs. The loss stings, the sting is what Michael Hawkins Jr. needs for the future. That, and a real QB coach.

The decision to bench Arnold and change starters was made so prematurely that I don't understand it. If you're willing to change the offense for a new QB, why not make adjustments that better fit Arnold? Even then, why put a true freshmen QB in the position to burn their redshirt instead of putting in Casey Thompson? He might not be elite, but he's got more experience than Arnold and Hawkins. At that point we can conserve redshirt years and let these guys develop more.

Bro Oklahoma had no run game outside,inside or sideways . 39 rush attempts for 89 yards. 😂 Damn hate to see what you consider a no run game? Their longest play of the day was a 15 yard pass play. 237 yards of total offense and that last drive for about 60 yards was against Texas #2 defenders. Hawkins is a wide receiver trying to play quarterback.

OUs best 5 WR are out hurt, which means you can’t pass the ball so the defense knows you’re gonna run most of the time. Hawkins had 55 TD his senior year in high school 41 were passing TDs and only 3 interceptions but he can’t do it all himself either

Firstly, a legit head coach would have kept Dillon Gabriel, even though we know he is not as good now as either Jackson or Hawkins will be at his age in his fifrh or six year as a starter. We should have kept him, let him be the captain this year entering SEC play with a man that's already grown up and in his sixth year, he is clearly better at decision making etc. Jackson could have been number two with casey Thompson playing the three, red shirt Hawkins for the future. But did we do that? 🤡 I can guarantee you Venables and Co will be fired within a season or two. Absolutely no chance to compete with him vs the other coaches in the SEC. Maybe the worst offense ive ever seen in morern college football, they cant even line up some big guys and run the football, the most basic form of offense. 😂 Offensive line is like swiss cheese, not one time did they fire off and win the line of scrimmage. Defense gets tired eventually, loses hope, gives up a big play or two. Oklahoma will be in football purgatory for a year or two then Brent gets fired. I mean seriously, who tries to be a passing team recruiting five stars amd dont even have a quarterback coach or legitimate offensive coordinator with quarterback development experience?? Makes zero sense, the quarterbacks have been struggling since Cale Gundy was wrongly fired. This is clearly a coaching problem at Oklahoma and if we know it here on this chat, at least some boosters etc also probably feel the same way too. They are all on the hot seat or should be. They would be at Alabama , Ohio st, etc.

I honestly don't know if the coaches are showing Mike where he's making mistakes because he literally makes the same exact mistakes every single play of every single game? Are they not teaching the young man? Are they not seeing these problems? If he's making these mistakes and just not correcting them, then you have to do something different as coaches to help him out or you have to sit him down. You sat Arnold when he made mistakes, but we don't want to sit Hawkins because we want to show stability? Stability of what? Losing? Getting the shit kicked out of you? I didn't like the game plan at all after 2 weeks to prepare. Tons of qb option? Is it the 1940s again? WTF? Run your freshman quarterback 20x? That's your game plan? Terrible. To only put up 3 poi to with 2 weeks to prepare is inexcusable. Someone has to lose their job over this!
@Allen-hg2hu
@Allen-hg2hu 7 сағат бұрын
Isn't your QB coach, was a fullback in college? He is making the same mistakes, because OU is too inept to actually hire a real QB coach to you know, coach their quarterbacks. To use a Aggie analogy, Aggie gonna Aggie, Ou gonna Ou. Your coach also isn't a HC, he is in over his head, they should just let him coach the defense since that is what he is good at, and hire a actual real offensive coordinator. I think OU needs a reset completely on the coaches on offense, and make sure they are SEC quality and know how to coach in the SEC.

After Venables sent Arnold to the trash heap, why on earth would Arnold want to burn his redshirt by coming back in for Hawkins? He's got one foot in the portal already. It may be more likely they would have to turn to Casey Thompson if they want to make a QB change. I promise you Arnold's agent will be advising him to stand form on redshirting.

1:00 tell me you don’t know football without telling me… “This is as easy of a comeback as you can get” The dude had a ton of field to cover with that pass. How about the easy check down or open field to run and get a few yards? That’s not an easy pass because of the distance and angle. He has other options, that’s why this is a bad play.
@powerhoursec
@powerhoursec Күн бұрын
Ehhh that’s fair Josh. However, I Didnt need the condescending tone. You are right. It is cross field. Juices are flowing early. You don’t want to make a mistake. But the throw should still be made. The mechanics & timing of the miss though made it look very bad. And he obviously has an issue throwing to his left.

@@powerhoursec It was meant to be more of a sarcastic joking tone, but a keyboard can’t relay that. My bad. I agree that he had terrible mechanics in this throw. The rest of the game around this suggested that he’s too young and not poised for big moments imo. Play calling hurt him early in the game, but later in the game it was poor decisions by the young QB on good play calls that really stood out to me.

Most of these comments are from groupies. Jackson Arnold was pulled before halftime and deservedly so. But BV should have pulled Hawkins at halftime because he was totally ineffective and gun shy, didn’t want to throw the ball anywhere except out of bounds. That’s being honest. Just like he pulled Arnold he should’ve pulled Hawkins. It’s a long season and you can’t be that stubborn. He should’ve gave Arnold another shot or even Thompson but to stick with Hawkins was deflating. Even the last play of the game he chose to throw the ball in the audience instead of giving one of his receivers a chance at a touchdown which we all wanted!! I believe both of these young qb’s are going to be successful but the truth is BV should have replaced him at halftime PERIOD!!
