Oh this build has be so much fun!
This ford is turning into a beast with every added tube!
The m600 ‪@RogueFabrication‬ tube bender has been putting in the work on the ford and will not be stopping anytime soon!
With some of the main frame tube work and front link setup done, it was time to figure out a steering and if any of your ember in the last video I didn’t know how I was gunna do it…. While one power nap later and the whole idea came into my mind! Few hours later and it’s being made in metal, sure do love this lil brain I got.
Next episode we install the transaxle and get it all mounted solid!

Those spindles are made to face rearward... Turn that axle around or just swap the spindles around so you can have proper Ackerman geometry that way the rack can be protected behind the axle and U don't have to play games with fishing shafts through the axle..

There's only one way that rack can mount... Upside down will make it steer opposite.. the rack should be mounted behind the axle though for reasons outlined in my previous comment but whatever way the rack turns is what dictates its orientation and if you get it wrong your gonna go right when you wanna go left... If you're going to be fapping around making custom front axles u should really look into effects of steering geometry: akerman, caster, camber, scrub radius, steering axis inclination.. Oh yeah and toe.. we mustn't forget toe.. what Ackerman does is change the relative toe between the wheels as they turn so the inside tire follows a tighter circle.. get any of these wrong and it means the difference between something that feels solid and tracks well or a shopping cart that understeers like a 90s front wheel drive Pontiac on a dirt road..

Yep and with the steering all hooked up it steers left when I want it and right when I need it, as for everything else, so far it’s very solid and works as is. Again this is a lawnmower… it’s not gunna be exactly perfect and the same as a off-road vehicle

as far as steering geometry pretty much all mower axles are made correctly from the factory because tight turning is important. you're building a custom front end which means you aim to improve its performance or at least not make it worse I hope.. facing those spindles forward without modifying them will make it turn worse. I learned from making mistakes that it really makes a difference especially at low speed with aggressive rear tires and locked rear end.. if you're set on putting the rack up front to showcase your fab skillz it's easy to modify the spindles if you look into it..

@@okoffroadmowers mower axles are made correctly from the factory... As far as camber, kingpin inclination, toe and Ackerman goes it was pretty much exactly perfect. all it was missing was a bit of caster...that is until you put it on backwards..

@@okoffroadmowers most importantly proper Ackerman geometry helps most at low speeds especially with a locked rear end and aggressive rear tires..
