I've got seeds from a friend down the road from me who grows cowhorn every year and iv saved seeds from those plants for the past maybe 4 or 5 years. 🐯

If you have ant problems on your okra, you already know the size of the seed. You already know what the bloom looks like. You already know the plant is green and it gets real tall. Just need to know how to keep ants off.

I have used Tanglefoot for trees on my okra plants for years. It's also cheap and can be found at stores.

How do I get the ants off the bottoms of leaves or flowers?Tjank you for making this video. I just love okra and really fought ants last year. The base of your okra plant looked hearty. By the time my okra got that big to paint the base, I’d already have them all over my leaves. Any advice?

This isn't the exact product but one just like it I used. Catch EM' Sticky Coating 8oz Brush on Insect Trap Coating(Brush Cap) a.co/d/03pbw0CW. I provided this link for ease of identification. I get nothing if you click this link.

Hi Grow the earth what about using Vaseline will it not do same job as this product you used from Amazon with the brush? Australia
@GrowTheEarth2 жыл бұрын
vaseline may work. I personally haven't tried it. This product basically turns the trunk of the plant into a big sticky trap but im sure you could almost get the same effect from vaseline. My only concern would be if it comes off and the consequences of it being in the soil.
@kansasgardener5844 Жыл бұрын
Don't use Vaseline. When it melts or it rains you will have a petroleum product in your soil. Oh No!
@blackbearhomestead3 жыл бұрын
Will this null an organic garden gardening method? Is it food grade?
@GrowTheEarth3 жыл бұрын
This will not nullify organic gardening since there is no contact with the fruit or ground. It's nothing more than a thick type of glue that doesn't harden.
@blackbearhomestead3 жыл бұрын
@@GrowTheEarth Thank you. One of the reviews stated it creates a weak mess on the stalk/trunk and causes it to fall over? Did you experience any damage to your okra? Mine are between 3-7 feet tall. I would hate to lose any of them. I’m in 9b
@GrowTheEarth3 жыл бұрын
Mine are close to 8ft now and the only thing I have is a brown area that's full of bugs where it was applied. I haven't seen any negative effects from it at all. My okra are producing better than they ever had actually.

Ermmm how about using vaseline...ants hate vaseline that is petroleum jelly
@GrowTheEarth Жыл бұрын
@@debbubbly9841 Vaseline wouldn't last in the heat we have here it would turn into a runny mess that would run down the stalk and end up in the ground.

Yeah this is my first time growing okra so I didn't actually know this but ants are literally chewing the leaves up and now they're attacking a couple of the Oprah's that have sprouted off the plant and to my four 5 plants already have yellow okra pieces I'm kind of pissed cuz I put some pesticides down and it's like it's not even slowing them down

Ants are hard to deal with. My latest video is a safe organic spray that begins to kill the ant hill within minutes and be completely inactive in 24 hrs.
@dthundergunb31153 жыл бұрын
@@GrowTheEarth luckily I found a plant and animal friendly alternatives to a few Google searches last night, the only downside is I have to read administer it once every couple days. But it killed them instantly, it was one cup of warm water, one tablespoon of dish soap, and one cup of either vegetable or olive oil and I put it in a spray bottle, world around enough to mix the oil and water and sprayed it and the Ants instantly died and so did the aphids that I had noticed for on my potato plants. Vegetable and olive oil is actually good for plants which I did not know that. But I appreciate the good tips about the sticky stuff I'm definitely ordering some and I got all the lower branches closed off so the ants don't have multiple ways onto my plants. Again thank you so much, I haven't grown okra before and learned a lot about when to pick it. And how it goes to seed I'll definitely be doing that with a few pods. Great video brother and informative I'm definitely subscribing to your channel, I am good with tomato plants I have a dozen varieties growing both inside and outside my house, inside I have total control of most things like rain not wasing nutrients away, controlling disease, and pests the trade off is electricity and hand pollination

Amen brother! Which okra variety that you've grown over the years has the best yields?
@GrowTheEarth Жыл бұрын
The most prolific plants we have have to be the red burgundy okra. always large strong plants that produce great.
@francisjohns8559 Жыл бұрын
This method will be very laborous if you have a large commercial farm. Ain't it?
@GrowTheEarth Жыл бұрын
large commercial farms tend to use chemicals to kill pest. I have a much different approach since it's a small garden that I grow organically.

I wonder if you could have accomplished the same thing with some $ store double sided tape 😂

double sided tape would be affected by the elements too much I would think. Give it a try. I am by no means an expert and there is always a better way.
