One of the wanted persons on the military's list, Clement Ikolo Oghenerukevwe, Monarch of Ewu-Urhobo kingdom, relocated from London to assume the throne. He resides far away from the crime scene, his only connection to this case is being a traditional ruler of a kingdom in which Okuama is a satellite village

Welldone to the guest, he spoke my mind and more,l couldn't have said it any better.I was even surprised listening to the military in that burial ceremony, with the president there, they sounded like a law unto themselves, not minding what the president, commander in chief of the armed forces thinks. Over 30 military men were killed in Niger state last year or 2 years ago, nobody was declared wanted or community sacked. Why is the south different?l thought they joined the army to defend the nation? And death sometimes is part of that resume unfortunately. The military should leave the investigation to the police and other civil authorities and move on to defending the territorial integrity of Nigeria that they were enlisted, trained to do,because without Nigeria, there wont be the military in the first place. This show of force in everything we do instead of the rule of law is the reason Nigeria is in a web of violence everywhere, from north east to south east to niger delta and the middlebelt.Maybe it's time the military learn to respect Nigerians as the employer, see every citizen as innocent until proven guilty by the court. Thank you.

Democracy is about working with other tribes to gain top leadership in the centre. SS had gained leadership with J. Goodluck. If SE wants to ascend to that same position, they must drop their arrogance, hatred, and work with other tribes too.

The Police handing the Traditional Ruler over to the military is unfounded and an act of cowardice. Theirs is to protect the citizen and to ensure that due process is followed. Dr. Reuben as much as I value your intellectual input, I do grin at your questioning strategies. You were once in the corridors of power in this country and quite aware of the level of impunity and disregard for human rights in Nigeria. Ask yourself in this matter about Okwua in Delta state, who is and who is supposed to take charge of the case? Irrespective of the circumstances and pain, raise awareness of human right and due process followed at all times and give people the leverage to prove their innocence. It's a tough place to defend yourself in Nigeria and you know this quite well.

Just because the military is aggrieved does not give them the authority to go out and be rabid in reprisal attacks. Yes whoever was involved in the military massacre must be brought to the court of law and if found guilty, must face the law. A lawless land brings forth chaos. The military shouldn’t be feared but must be loved. Which is akin to a father who rules his family in fear and not love. We all know how that story ends. Once they are loved, respect will automatically follow and civilian relationship healing will happen. Attempting to force feelings of fear will always end very badly at any venture. Same applies to police. The military are also part of the country. Nigeria comes first, every other thing should follow. Military is not bigger than the country, the police is not bigger than the country, the people in it are the country. Collectively we make a country. So whoever did that dastard act must be brought to the book so should the those who ordered the reprisal attacks on the community while killing innocent citizens. But what is more important is that this is a matter that is more than what meets the eye. Critical investigation must be carried out.

This is legality, by the king, to the illegality by the police turning the king to the army. Methink, it should have been the otherwise - arm turning him to the police for further investigation. Isn't this scarry enough to deter the other accused by the army to turn themselves to the army know what could become of them in thee custody of the army? Food for thought.

Actually the military has it's intelligence, so while the Army is engaging in their investigation the police will also be working hand in hand with the army and that's if the police can't be trusted with the investigation alone. This mentality of the military culture that once soldiers are killed in a particular place then the military has to go on rampage killing both the innocent and the criminal. In civilized world it's not like that. The military are Nigerians and the civilians are also Nigerians. I'm sure that as we talk don't be surprised that many innocent souls who don't even what is going on have been killed. The military of African countries carry themselves as if they're the LORD of LORDS of their country. It's still the civilians that sent the soldiers on an errand how then would the employee be more superior to the employer?

English words when used can be misinterpreted one way or the order, perhaps the military used the wrong words when they used the words "declared wanted" Since they are also involved in the investigation to find out who killed their men they might have received some intelligence information that link to certain individuals they would like to talk to in their internal investigation. Therefore these individuals are persons of interest. What they need to do is do exactly what the traditionally ruler has done if they think they are innocent. They can turn themselves in to the police and the police can alert the military who want to interrogate these individuals. The military is not going to kill them or pass any judgment on them. The military operate under instruction from higher authorities who if they thought the military has overstepped their boundary would said something. We must understand that the manner these soldier were killed was brutal and therefore requires different approach in fishing out the perpetrators. If this was a shot out between the army and the perpetrators, it would have been a matter of survival of the fittest. The Security agencies in the country have not been known to cooperate very well with each other and there is no doubt that they military feels that leaving the investigation to the police and leaving the crime scene might not yield the desired result and hence they are still in the location. The community should be allowed back home. The president has given the order that the people that committed this crime be fished out and how it is done is irrelevant. The community needs to criticize less on what is going on and be sympathetic with the military. If the military is wrong the National Adviser and the Defense Minister would have stepped in direct the military on what needs to be done.

Okuama community of Delta State, conspired with oil thieves to break oil pipelines & oil depots to smuggle Nigeria oil through waterways. When they saw soldiers, they pounced on innocent soldiers keeping peace in that communities & killed seventeen soldiers.

Typical case of ‘cover up’ in Nigeria! Or what do you call a case where the military does not let anyone access the community but still insists on declaring certain people ‘wanted’ and seeking to be judge and jury in its on case. Even the police handing over persons to the military. Sad!!! I just pray the monarch who turned himself in, is allowed to actually defend himself.

You miss the core of the matter. The perpetrators are alleged to have committed the crime and have not yet been convicted. The military blatantly infracts the constitution when they whisk away the monarch. The monarch, like me a humble Yoruba civilian is not subject to the military act or code of conduct. The military does not have a right to detain, arrest, or investigate anyone not employed by the military. The Police need to investigate him and the judiciary will mete out commensurate penalties if found guilty.

@@Tirelesswarrior Are you one of the perpetrators? What police? These people are not just common criminals on the street; the military must take charge. They have been declared wanted; they either voluntarily surrender or be forced out. The community should help the military find the perpetrators instead of complaining.

@afolabitoye4393 I'm not certain you discerned the pith of my post as you're stuck on the same outlook. Yes, we all agree that the perpetrators need to be dredged out and prosecuted. I actually support maximum punishment by the law for them. My grouse is the method that confers sovereignty and lacks accountability by the military. That is dangerous and a poor precedence for years to come. We never know what tomorrow holds. So it's important to toe the path of the law. I am old enough to recall all the atrocities of the military on civilians in the 80s and 90s. We worked assiduously for a democratic leadership. Thank God, we have that now. Don't advocate for jungle way of dealing with felonies committed by civilians. That's absolutely wrong. Always think deep and broad with possible consequences for the next generation. Cheers.

What a stupid talk from this individual. He should devoid himself of any emotional attachment to say that army is not the state of Nigeria government. Army was formed by the Nigerian state and vice versa. These people from Delta often failed to accept that their loyalty to their local chiefs and officers should be limited to their domain with respect and not to dictate to the Nigerian government thinking their existence in Nigeria is above the law of the country and when events occurred within their environment they should not be questioned or bring to book. Hear him….”military don’t follow due process “ as if army are not human beings whose human rights should not be respected.
