Okuma Celilo 7 ft 6 Ultralight rod and Ceymar reel field test

Yeah 7 ft 6 is a bit long for an ultralight rod but I figured I`d give it a try. The extra length has some advantages like better casting distance and better reach over bankside brush and trees. But it can be a disadvantage when hiking through woodlands and trying to cast in tight situations.
Overall I really like it especially for the 40 dollar price tag.
The Ceymar reel is super smooth and light with a decent amount of drag.
It feels sturdy enough to handle medium to large bass as well as being light enough to compliment any ultralight setup.

I bought a 7’ Presso rod a while back… after being used to fishing 5’6…. It’s too heavy for UL for my taste. Been wanting to try the Celilo out, though. That crappie at the end was a nice bonus!

Right on.. celilo is a decent rod. Kinda fun with the 7 ft 6 all whippy and bendy on fish. But yeah I think around 6 ft is the perfect ul size but I do like a 7 ft for extra casting distance especially since I only fish from the bank. But I grab the 5 ft 6 mostly if I'm exploring around ponds with alot of bushes and trees.

I’d have to agree 7’ 6” is a little too much rod. I bought this 6’ from Walmart 2 years ago and it’s a great set up. I actually bought 2 more in case they discontinued it. Only cost $22. Another great video.

I think 7 ft is the maximum I would recommend for most ultralight fishing. But this thing is super fun.

i've got 3 of the 8ft ultra-light Okuma Celilo rods paired with Okuma Ceymar-30 reels strung up with 4lb Sufix Hi-Vis line. best setup i've had in years for ultra-light fishing. i get good distance when casting 1/8, 1/16, 1/32oz jigheads.

I bought 3 of those rods in 5, 5 1/2 & 6 ft lengths. Used them for a few months & loved them, but then the 5 1/2 ft broke when I got snagged. I realize they are inexpensive rods, but contacted Okuma cuz rod was only 3 months old. Wasn't impressed with their warranty process so I don't buy them anymore. Went back to Shakespeare & Shimano. You always manage to land some bass....sometimes I need to go Bass pro so I remember what bass look like 😂

For the price they're hard to beat but Okuma should've given you a replacement for a rod that young. For sure. Hope mine holds up

Honestly that's just plain old bad luck man, I wouldn't chock it up to the rod model or price range. I have 2 of the exact same 7'6" Celilo's from the video and one rod in particular caught around 30 Pink Salmon in a single day, ranging from 4 to 8 lbs. Both rods have also handled dozens of trout each in the 1-2 lb range and probably well over 50 half lb trout each, as well as dozens of Smallmouth Bass. I've had them both since 2021 and they have yet to let me down.

I casted the 7 ft 6 the other day with a 1/8 oz spinner and it slung that lure incredibly far! Loaded up so nicely with that weight
