Okuma Komodo FAILS/BREAKS on Yellowtail

After the success you have had, it has handled some very big fish for a baitcaster, especially that long fight with the yf tuna. We use them on our charter boat and they have been faultless. Okuma also has great service backup if needed

Yes they reached out and fixed it free of charge. Still using it to this day and just caught a few yellowtail recently. Excellent reel and customer service

I had my "drag adjustor knob" fail on me and that caused a similar issue. Give Komodo a call. They're support is really good.

@@chrisansari9017 just used it on a 1.5 day trip and used it for a brief moment for yellowtail . Was able to hook one but didn’t land it as I pulled the hook. Drag was still smooth and casted beautifully .

Same here on 364 . Also is normal to see driveshaft exposed 3-6 mm between the star drag and handle when tightened drag ? And then when loosen drag it gets closer and closer ...guess it makes sense that if tighten drag it moves toward body leaving space in between handle? Or am I missing spacing washer ? Btw , check the leaf spring mine makes same grinding sound so , idk

I have two of these reels spooled up with 50lb braid. I haven't fished either one yet. I have cleaned a bunch of grease out of it and the bearings. Then used reelx oil. Are you still fishing with it? Thinking about selling them.

I used it this season to fish 25lbs and 30lbs. Has 50lbs max cuatro braid 300 yards

First off let me start off by saying I love my komodo but the same problem has happen to me. And the handle also takes a chunk out of your knuckle if you're not careful. Great video maybe okuma will see this and fix the problem because the komodo is a decent reel.

You know the Komodo handle has torn up my thumb a couple times during reeling in fish. I hope they fix the handle on the new version.

I like fishing left handed reels. Slowly trying to get right handed reels since the some of the bigger reels only come in right handed

@@richardhuk33 your hand action doesn’t look natural when you’re reeling in the fish from your videos. Seems like you’re struggling, I would recommend a right handed reel, it will feel natural and I’m sure you won’t hit your knuckles on the star drag.

@@mtbjekyll1 yes I got a penn 40nld2 But the star drag cutting up knuckles is a known thing with the komodo cuz it happens with my buddy too and hes right handed

Sounds like a gear mesh problem to me or the clutch isn't kicking the pinion gear out far enough

Yes okuma changed the gearing system and the spool. Wasn’t the clutch as expected .

The hub engage failed I think. Your pinion gear isn't grabbing the spool pin like it should.

Yes okuma actually reached out to me and fixed the reel for free. It was a gear problem and also the spool was replaced . Grade A+ customer service .

I love upgrading the drags and lube on my Okumas. If I lose a part, they rarely charge me for a replacement. Which part did they replace and was it defective? Was it an upgrade? I have a Komodo as well.

@@08alexnyc how did you upgrade the drag? They replaced the gear assembly and spool. They said the drag abd clutch was completely fine.

The drags on the Okuma baitcasters I have are carbon fiber so I didn't have to upgrade.I upgraded to carbon fiber on the spinning reels. However, I do wipe off the factory grease and use Magnalube-G. It's cheaper than Cal's, isn't drag specific so I can use it throughout the reel without worrying about cross-contamination, and is trusted by reel mechanics throughout Europe.
