I hope I'm not the only one who loves this style of animation. It stuck out in my mind BECAUSE of its creativity and uniqueness. They were juxtaposing the animation against what almost looked like lithographic-style drawings of old NY. I thought it was very cool, simple, but eye-catching. It gave the whole animation a very memorable aesthetic. I love classic animation!

To be fair, they're BOTH kinda shallow, but at least Betty grows to realise Freddie's actually willing to put his neck out for her in dire times. Freddie was still willing to provide for her all the same, but yeah.... The chemistry feels a bit empty. Which is prolly a better thing for both of 'em to not end up together at the end, ultimately. XD

Also, the moral of this story was for Betty to learn that she didn't need a wealthy man to take care of her and appreciate her. She would have done well being with the man selling ice since he loved her and respected her.

Omg no, we definitely don't need them to masacrate Betty too. It is fine like it is, don't give them ideas. Let Betty remain herself.

I still remember watching this when it came out. Betty Boop was a character from the Nineteen Forties, but they did her justice in this half hour television special.

I'm so glad I red the comments because this is my first actual time watching Betty boop. I was saying to myself, I didn't know she was such a gold digger. If I hadn't read the comments I would've lived with that mentality that she's a self preserved gold digger in a short short dress. I'm goin to watch her Cinderella movie after this to watch the original Betty I'm hopes she isn't like this one

You're commenting as if this were a real person. A cartoon character is whatever is needed to be funny. Betty Boop was originally an anthropomorphized dog, like Goofy. If she needs to be a centipede misanthrope, she'll be a centipede misanthrope. Do see her as "Poor Cinderella", and even better as "Snow White".

If I recall, Harley Quinn was partly inspired by Marilyn Monroe's character from "Some Like It Hot".... who was based on Helen Kane, the same celebrity that Betty Boop was based on. So, yeah, Harley is definitely part of the same cartoon lineage as Betty Boop.

Betty Boop wasn’t the innocent cartoon character that she appears to be. She’s an adult unmarried woman with no family. Her adventures involve anything but romance. That’s intentional.

If this was made in the 80s then I'm impressed that they tried to replicate it especially since the 80s and 70s aren't well known for decent animation especially something resembling the rubberhose art style

I recently had dinner with Carol Barnes who is an old friend of my stepmother's. She was the production manager on this piece for Bill Melendez. She got me a tour of the studio and I got a chance to meet Bill when I was 9 years old in '86. I remember his big mustache and his vivacious character, and how nice he was. He could make anybody his friend. We had a nice time remembering him and the various projects, and this Betty Boop piece was one of my very favorites growing up. Boop boop be doop!

Anyone else not like This version of betty? I feel they made her so materialistic and selfish. Original Betty was sweet sexy and cute. it wasnt about money it was her adventures and how she got in trouble due to her child like innocence. Only version that was on point was Who framed Roger Rabbit short bit with her.
