Great video Wayne! Eldorado seats are the most comfortable seats I've ever run, I say leave that steering wheel in for historic value, the in cab battery disconnect is rare but not crazy rare. The 88 377 and 94 379EXD I owned both had them, and we have a 07 335 mechanics truck now in our shop that has them. I wonder if that pipe you pulled out was a piston wrist pin? This truck will be a beaut when restored! Anyway, I'm sitting on my patio, watching videos and drinking some frosty cold snacks in one of your koozies🍻🍻

After driving 45years. We had all sorts of Peterbilt and KWs. Had little window 359s. 70 to 72s. Got a brand new 75 359. 1693TA. 13sp. 411 truck no power steering. A 77 with a 93 13sp. With power steering. My 359. 78 with a 3406 PC motor 13sp 433. No power steering. Then we got the best one's. A 79 359 with a KTA 526. 15spd 411s. That truck had all the goodies. PS. Air conditioning power windows. Etc. Those were all small bunk trucks. Then we got a custom built big bunk Pete. A 79 379XHD. 3408 15spd 390s. The best part was the Double Eagle 60 in sleeper with a 255 in wheelbase. Had sneak around at first seeing how it was only legal to be 55ft overall. We were like 59 60ft with a 40ft trailer. You would have been in heaven with the trucks we used to have. Throw in some Brockways. Since we lived in New York. A bunch of Pete and KW cabovers. LIFE WAS WICKED GREAT. ! 😎🇺🇸

that would definitely be the truck to fix up an maybe try an restore the old paint on it definitely a keeper that was the beginning of the big rigs if you had a truck like that everyone thought you had money an you was noted to be the big rigger of the highways, I owned a 1984 standard hood 359 first year of the 3406B model engine 63" sleeper with a 15 speed later added a 4th axle an 5x4 behind the 15 speed I hauled big over sixed an long & heavy loads it was definitely a sweet old truck and it would get strength out long legged 120mph top speed empty no trailer, so I highly recommend keeping it fix it up if you sold it worth Big Bucks.

I think you should feel better about this purchase, it's a cool truck with a little history and rarity that gives it good conversation and likeability. I think you should do a light restoration on it, this truck is going to take to much work to restore it all the way so buy the stuff that's missing to return it to original, fix the seats, shine up the paint that's already on it and get it road worthy, or at least short distance drivability.

Cool old Pete, had a customer back in the early 90's with a long nose Pete no sleeper heavy haul rig with 3408 which he claimed 500+hp. We set him up with an RTO 15613 with auxiliary counter shaft driven oil pump and cooler which dumped oil on main box drive gears and auxiliary overdrive gears. Cured his issue of melting down over drive gears in auxiliary section and lowering over all trans temps, engine put out impressive torque.

Second worse. Bottom viking t- bar was much worse. My favorite was the stock Pete seat. Kind of sat close to the center of the cab and you could window shop seat covers on both door windows. Also roll the hand cranked passenger window down no problem. But if you long for the good old days of trucking try going cross country in White with a 220 Cumapart ten speed fuller transmission with 4.44 or maybe 4.88 for high speed. Like 62 miles per hour. No ac maybe an AM radio full time engine fan so you couldn't hear it if you had it. Split rim budd or erie wheels tube type rag tires. No CB so hand signals to communicate where the bears were. But at least you could get a real Chicken Fried Steak that actually had a cow involved.

Weren't Needle-noses extra long? Have you tried contacting the original dealer or sales zone office? There might be someone there who remembers the truck, or has heard about it. That steering wheel is badass! It's kind of like an enlarged 1982 Mustang GT steering wheel. I think you call that "diamond tufting," on the El Dorados - super old school. That back window should be pretty easy to replace yourself. I done the windshield in my Dentside when swapping cabs, and after that did the rear window/backlite, and it seemed ridiculously easy. I wonder if the shoulder belts have been with the truck since day one, and just nobody ever installed them. Oh, the skanky lot lizards that mattress might have seen - mice are still usually worse...

They call it Form Follows Function it's an architecture term but can be used here also. It's when the manufacturer added function first in the way of the big engine then followed it with the big hood (form) because it was the only way to cover the engine. Now a days everyone wants it to look good first so throw that big hood over a 4-53. I like the "Lets' Talk Trucks" I'm learning a lot. How do you go about getting the build sheets on a truck. it is something that the manufacturers offer?

Those vip wheels were actually made in France by Lecarra that made wheels for Ferrari and other high end sports cars. They were first offered to the big truck market in the USA in the mid to late 70s and were all 22" when still most trucks were manual steering but as trucks progressed into power steering the large wheel was no longer needed and the ratio slowed the steering response. But peterbilt still installed them as an upgrade on power steering trucks till the end of the 359 run. On a side note vip did produce some 20" wooded wheels at a later point but I'm not sure on the dates of these.
