So I finally got ahold of John Petrucci for a coffee. Even though I would've enjoyed it in person since I'm not a fan of Skype interviews, it came out pretty good. Next time it will be in person! Enjoy me being absolutely nervous and star struck!

He's one of the most amazing guitarists ever, has one of if not the most influential prog metal bands ever, yet is so super humble & down to earth. I remember watching Become the Knight interview him and came away with the same impression. Dude is literally talking to guys who borderline idolize him and makes them feel worthy!

(my two cents) That is probably because being in a band, John Petrucci has to share the stage with other virtuosos who take the spotlight, and Dream Theater has got more appeal (probably also having a lead vocalist helps a lot, because it forces you to write actual songs).

I met John in real life during one of his guitar clinics in Frankfurt and talking to him, shaking his hand, was like a gift of god to me, back in the day! He is such a politely, patiently and nice guy! He took the time for every fan, to change some words, to give some autographs and to make some selfies with his fans! It was an honourable moment and he simply won us all over! John Petrucci is such a guitar god and such a wonderful human being! I do hope, that you´ll meet him in real life as well, Ola! LOVED this interview! Thank you so much, Ola!

Totally love that, the fact that even in our age, being parents etc a certain person puts you back to being 12 years old and I can fully associate with your nervousness. Everytime I watch a JP interview I become more and more of a fan. Its like when yiu meet a beautiful person and think “ong they are so pretty I’m sure its gone to their head and they are a jerk or full of themselves” but then they turn out to be like just as beautiful human. John is like a natural beauty, in this case as a musical genius, but not one shred of arrogance, or such. He is so humble, laidback and just cool. Thats just a relief abs a breath of fresh air. Fantastic interview Ola and so glad you got to chat him up.

It was special to see the two of you have a conversation about music and gear that not only answered some important questions but also will help propel guitar players closer to reaching their own goals. Also, its inspiring to learn that even the greatest players can struggle with relearning their own songs years later. It makes what I’m trying to do with my own music seem a little less daunting and that means a lot.

Unreal. As a 16 year old I was often in tears and broken by the majesty and the wonder of Dream Theatre. One of the best Bands ever

I love how John is always completely prepared to geek out with just any other player that he meets. I love the guy's playing and music but he's a real inspiration as a person and professional as well. I also love the fact that he's busy geeking out on KZbin like the rest of us. Some successful musicians start behaving like celebrities a bit when they reach a certain level. Not necessarily in a bad way but perhaps become a bit "guarded". With John it's just like talking to another guitar player in any given music store only he's on such a high level of playing and technical knowledge with the gear and not just the chops. Completely approachable.

Haha, my story is exactly the same as Ola's. Got into Dream Theater from Falling into infinity and went to their Falling Into Infinity show in Helsinki. Then bought the Rock Discipline VHS and practiced hours every day and then bought the Petrucci Ibanez signature model JPM P2 guitar. I wonder how many others are out there. I love what you said Ola about John not getting enough credit for the emotion in his solos and I agree a thousand percent. He's got some reeeeally beautiful, soulful passages in many of his solos. The Lines in the Sand solo, the Spirit Carries on, Another Day, the list goes on and on.

This is so good Ola...I'm so happy for u!! Can't stop smiling while watching this :D I remember when I've met him before a DT Concert at a Meet & Greet in Hamburg, Germany and I was so fucking nervous! He is definitly a Hero for me too and I was very happy that I had the opportunity to tell him that! He also signed my Astonishing CD and my guitar strap which is kind of cool!
