Old 2009 Yamaha WR 250F annihilated the 2015 Yamaha YZ250FX in the tight stuff

I pitted my 09WR250F that has been properly uncorked against my 15 YZ250FX and the result was stunning. The FX had no prayer

Man bless you my friend. I have been torn between the 2. Found a nice 09 wr250f I’m planning to get. Bc the riding I do will be slow, smooth, rough, rocky, you name it, and I want to tractor through it without clutching constantly and on the throttle a lot. But want some speed in the wide open. I’ve heard time and time again the wr250f is the answer.

I own a 22 wr250f and the bike is an absolute beast In The woods and on trails . Best bike I’ve ever owned for trail riding.

I’ve got the 2023 i removed all the restrictions that are on the bike from factory I also got the competition ECU and the bigger exhaust baffle as well as the air box snorkel Yha the wr 250f I love mine it’s awsome

Hmmm , have ridden both - the older WR-F maybe a little better in the tight stuff sure But the YZ- FX suspension, jumping and taking sharp hits stability is at another level I thought Best std suspension I'd felt on a dirt bike

You make a good neighbor. Most dirt bike owners don't get that neighbors don't mind the sound of a dirt bike, but it is incredibly annoying when that bike owner thinks he has to ring a ding a ding , ring a ding ding, as if the motor might die if he's not hitting the rev limiter constantly while just in sitting in the driveway, constantly.

Yes completely agreed. I always try to keep the noise levels low at all times. I live in a community with elderly people and although most of them like me they may not be fond of the sounds of bikes

They are both awesome bikes! Ride the one that's most fun and you can afford, there will be little difference in times once used to the bike. A yz125 mx bike won't tractor up anything without alot of clutch and revs, but is still capable once used to it and lots of fun.

Just change the sprocket on the FX and it will go slow in 1st gear too.

Oh im sure. But i feel im already having to jump between 3rd and 4th gear a lot on medium speed trails in Michigan (geels). I would prefer a taller sprocket now so I can hold 3rd gear throughout. I still could but I'd be winding out the motor quite a bit

That’s because they are two completely different bikes. One is a cross country race bike and one is a dual sport. It’s like comparing a sandwich and a pizza.

Seriously though, what ID says is true, but there is a lot more to woods riding than idling up a gentle slope, both I'm sure are fantastic bikes.

Try the “smooth linear/ slippery conditions” map on the FX and it will lug better. I’ve got the same year WR as yours and a 2018

Where can i find the map? I did my own custom mapping by adding fuel and taking away spark timing and it did mellow it down and didn't notice the engine braking so much

The new WR250F can't do what that older one does and is just an FX with lights.

Ill be honest the new WR is definitely more powerful but I can still feel the FX to be more lively on the engine front
