The fact is, the economic productive base in China has been irreversibly socialized, and an organized dictatorship of capital (of the bourgeoisie) was never restored. You do realize life expectancy was still higher during the great famine than before the revolution? The cultural movement is the sole reason why China’s poverty alleviation efforts have been so successful, so much so that over 700 million people were lifted from poverty. If you wanna discredit and smear an entire era of history with western rhetoric and bias, you should look a little closer to home. 16 million die from hunger and lack of clean drinking water each year, plus another 3 million from curable disease that was left to fester due to inaccessibility of healthcare. Not to mention the hundreds of thousands that have died and continue to die at the hands of the US and other imperialist nations in unnecessary wars. That’s at least 20 million deaths each year that is the cost of capitalism. You do the math and you will soon come to realize that capitalism is the biggest killer in human history. The human race would not have made it this far if we had such an exploitative system from the start, and its destructive nature is killing our species and planet in innumerable ways. @General Pinochet communism isn't when the "government does stuff" to be a communist you don't have to be a leninist, socialism can be implemented with a decentralised economy if businesses are all changed to co ops where decisions can be made democratically, there can also be worker councils where each sector of workers votes on representatives to send to negotiate decisions in a higher tier. This is really boiled down so I would suggest looking up libertarian socialism, anarcho syndicalism and market socialism. These are systems I believe which can give maximum freedom to as much people as possible
@eoin84504 жыл бұрын
@General Pinochet ironically it's capitalism that resulted in violence and gangs. I fail to understand how communism results in such things, it could be the stateless part but marxs definition doesn't mean the eradication of societal structure but the eradication of an oppressive means, marx doesn't interchangeably see the state and the government as the same thing. The state is a means by which one class suppresses the other
@eoin84504 жыл бұрын
@General Pinochet actually to decrease gangs you have to look at why people join gangs and how they're empowered. If you are poor you are much more likely to join a gang out of desperation, if these people are given the opportunity through social programmes, improved workers rights they won't have to join gangs. Another reason gangs are powerful is because of drug laws, if drugs like weed are legalised the gangs have nothing to work with, the war on drugs was a complete failure that fixed nothing you have to displace gangs with policy, including focus on rehabilitating drug addicts instead of locking them up in prison

Mao and Maoism built off of Lenin and applied Leninist theory to the realities and conditions of China during Japanese occupation and later afterwards. Same with some Leninist theories that was built off Marxism but in the material conditions of Monarchist, Peasant and Feudal Russia at the time of the Tzar when they didn’t have a working class oppressed under Capitalism but instead went from Feudalism straight to Socialism. They established a authoritative party because many people were not educated about Marx as most Slavics were literal Medieval Feudal peasants who couldn’t even read and write let alone fight a revolution. The theory is that people generally aren’t educated enough on Socialism so the people need a Party that guides them and nurtures the revolution. To Lenin all people are dormant revolutionary fighters but just need a strong party to lead them. Socialist experiments used Marxist theory and applied it to their Countries reality since not every Country has the same experiences. That’s why you hear “Marxist analysis of America” etc our Socialism would probably be less authoritarian as previous attempts since those areas in Europe and China had to be authoritarian because of their realities.
@twilightgarrison36712 жыл бұрын
It’s interesting to look at how Lenin together with the Party pooled money and resources and built one big productive factory and fed, clothed (because they didn’t even have a lot of clothes as well) and taught the peasants. They were slowly building up the revolution.

I think a fallacy some communists and all anticommunists fall into is the idea that Mao is 100% responsible for the changes under communism, both good and bad. His ideas were used by the masses to orient the direction of the revolution, but its not like he was going from village to village and telling them what to do. The Cultural Revolution manifested itself completely differently in different areas.

@grefthesmef62652 ай бұрын
Leaders are as responsible for their inaction as much as their inaction. As reports came in about students massacring their teachers in disturbing ways, Mao deliberately chose to do nothing. He thought the violence in the Cultural Revolution was a good thing in the long run even as everyone around him started to get scared. Same with the purging of local officials in nearly every town in China at different points. Zhou Enlai would personally house local government officials who's towns were getting uppity and threatening to kill them. Zhous grounds were essentially a revolving door for people (mostly innocent) who needed asylum from local mobs. In regards to China's natural disasters that sympathizers claim Mao gets unfairly blamed for, he certainly did not help. The sparrow war was absolutely ridiculous and an example of Maos direct involvement making a natural disaster worse. With grain production down, Mao thought it would be a good idea to get rid of all of the pests who eat grain before humans can harvest them, starting with sparrows. As the government had people standing on roof tops shouting and waving brooms at sparrows all day so they couldn't land (with many birds, if they can't fly and rest from flying for a long period of time, they will die in the air), the sparrow population dropped. However, without sparrows to control the bug population, much more disastrous pests like locusts swarmed through and created a much worse famine than the one already in place. Embarrassingly, China had to ask the USSR to export their sparrows to them. Where Mao could have taken credit with his appointing of some actually intelligent grain management leaders (again shout out to Zhou) who revised the distribution and cultivation systems of grain, Mao is now better remembered for his absolutely brain dead policies and ignoring of people who told him why these things wouldn't work. I would also like to add, even though this is already way too long, it was Mao's policy to cut out other crops in favor of a mostly grain system. Even non farmers were suddenly thrust into either steel or grain production making the prices of non grain foods, especially meat, skyrocket. If grain was the only crop failing, then China could have survived with a diversified range of foods. But yet again, Mao's policy set China up for failure when floods and famine came destroying grain production.

This guy is more sane than 99% of the people talking about China. Today, we have Capitalists saying that China is Communist/Socialist (which is wrong) and Socialists saying that China is Socialist (which is also wrong). Chinese revolution entered in a counter-revolutionary phase after Mao's death as the old man correctly points out. Denguism is liberalism with Maoist cover. If China managed to build Capitalism is thanks to the Maoist revolution, what US wants for China is to keep it poor like India but with some degree of growth so US companies can extract profits. Real development is not a priority. The hard fought achievements of the Revolution will disappear in the next decades as the children of the red princelings return from their expensive studies abroad and start to open up the economy even further.

@Gaonaism4 жыл бұрын
I don't see in any way how the video producer rejected the man's perspective for his marxist jargon. It is true that the man speaks in Marxist jargon b/c Mao and the PRC made an excruciating effort to inculcate the Chinese people to revere Mao as a deity despite the atrocities he committed.
@neo-jacobin61704 жыл бұрын
@@Gaonaism 1. To call the opinion of someone else as just "Jargon" is rather oppressive and bigoted. The right term is rhetoric. When one calls the opinions of others "Jargon", it is the legitimization of one's opinion over another. It's self-indulgent in one's superiority over others. 2. Anti-Communist have a type of ironic doublespeak. When someone in a Marxist state hates Communism, they are blessed. However, they are seen as brainwashed when they love it. A Ideology that offers the poor liberation would appeal to a homeless man. It has little to do with perceived atrocities, but is rather to do with one's current living conditions.
@Gaonaism4 жыл бұрын
@@neo-jacobin6170 jargon are technical terms used for a specific subject or endeavor. Nothing about it is oppressive or bigoted unless you're a radical leftist who is accustomed to the oppression narrative. If that's the case, then it's your duty to act offended and oppressed b/c that's in sync with your group think. The "legitimization of one's opinion over another" wrong term to use in this context. There are opinions that are better in various ways than others. To say all opinions are equal is bizarre but I understand why people say it. The reason you see it as "self-indulgent in one's superiority over others" is because your ideologically possessed so you primarily see the use of language the same way Marxists view class struggles. Communism is absolutely the lowest, most heinous, and murderous ideology conceived & implemented over the last century yet people like yourself want to see it's nobility to usher forth the utopia- gtfo It does appeal to a homeless man, just like it appealed (and was also coerced using Draconian measures) to millions of peasants in China before they endured mass starvation.
@neo-jacobin61704 жыл бұрын
@@Gaonaism 1. We use different definitions for the word "Jargon". I use the definition from the oxford dictionary: " a form of language regarded as barbarous, debased, or hybrid". In away, everything you said in the first paragraph is only really a half-truth. I'm actually very politically incorrect and I don't get offended easily. However, I do believe in oppression. Oppression as a concept is indeed a material reality. 2.The Context is subjective, it is base on nothing but opportunistic feeling. the same can be said of ideology as a concept. There is actually no ideological truth, no ontological or metaphysical truth either. What mankind see is only a idealistic mask . Since there is no objective truth in terms of ideology, all opinions are equal. Yet, this does not mean they are all "good". I must say that I am not a communist or a leftist in the traditional sense, I'm something else completely. 3. The most fascinating thing about this Pseudo-christian scolding narrative is how reductionist it is. It is a degenerating of ethics, it is nothing more than opportunistic Morality. As for the Historical narrative you chose to believe, it is a historical view that may or may not be true.
@Gaonaism4 жыл бұрын
@@neo-jacobin6170 Neo-Jacobin Merriam Webster: "The technical terminology or characteristic idiom of a special activity or group" yes jargon can also have a negative connotation, I only pointed out the producer didn't imply it that way or if he did he was condemning the man's marxist pov. What does it mean to believe in oppression? I never denied it existed, I only pointed out what I presumed to be your obsession with it which is characteristic of the modern radical leftists. Existence is oppressive but what I'm vehemently against is when people use it as a weapon to attribute group guilt e.g. "white privilege". Another example of your marxist rhetoric "opportunistic feeling". My mans, you are writing about use of proper terms in the appropriate context but this is the second comment where You are not appropriately using terms in proper context. "What mankind see is only an idealistic mask" sometimes, but this statement is wildly ambiguous. Mankind has also adopted empirical standards and developed rigorous processes for observing the world AKA science. "Pseudo-Christian" lolzzz so to you the only people who condemn Marxism are Christians? That's morally opportunistic of you to say 😂 "The historical narrative you choose to believe" To avoid any "opportunistic views" I'll believe what the 100+ Million corpses from around the world have to say about Marxism.

As for the deaths constantly quoted under Mao, the exaggerate claims of deaths from starvation were not increased but decreased from the deaths *before* Mao’s reforms owing to Western imperialist interference with China prior to 1950. Look up life expectancy data from 1950 to 1970, and multiply that through the large population. Mao brought live expectancy from 45 to 70 over his career, literacy from 10% to 80%. I sympathize with you as I used to have similar notion but after a lot of work realized I was completely brainwashed within Australia. Upon a lot of research it turns out that Mao did exceedingly more for the people of China than he caused problems and without Mao and their liberation of China from capitalists in the early 1950s, the whole county of China would have followed a path similar to India or Indonesia which both had a similar (even slightly better) initial conditions. Now China has eliminated poverty and has far better health care, higher literacy, economic mobility and business than India or Indonesia and is even catching up to the West which it was exceedingly behind in 1950s when Britain was still bribing and calling the shots over there.

The rural villages had communes until the 80's when, guess who, Deng dismantled them. They also had schools and workers councils that 9 times out of 10 benefited the communities. Which is far better than capitalism has done. And if you want to get into identity politics fine. Ever read the Communist Manifesto, Capital, What is to be Done?, Mao's collected works, Red Star over China, Turning Point in China, The Unkown Cultural Revolution. Mao murdered my grandfather, a university professor who travelled to France and Russia to study in the 1920s and 30s, and spoke 7 languages. He was executed during the cultural revolution for speaking out against propaganda in education and the execution of landowners. My grandmother managed to flee to Taiwan with 2 young children in tow. One of whom was my mother. Communism is NOT good. And what China has become today is a country where 12 families have all the wealth while the countrysides remain in poverty. Also, 25% of China’s population, to the tune of 100 million people were either murdered or died of famine under communism. It is good on paper, it does not work in real life.

I am from China. I dislike western countries but not the people. There is a huge difference between the actions of the state and the wishes of the people. Your racist tendencies are not fitting of a Chinese Communist. Also, to say westerners are entirely bourgeois is stupid. In the west 0.43% of the population own the majority of the wealth, around 90%. They just keep the western proletariat richer to divide the worldwide proletariat against each other. And you fell for it!

sorry but this is flat out wrong. you are falling for westerner populism. the "workers" of the first world and the rest of the average first worlders comprise top 10% of global population and consume 85% of global production and resources. you should read zak cope's "divided world, divided class" to see why the workers of the first world are part of the enemy. even engels saw this a decade after he wrote "the condition of working class in england" yet pseudomarxists of today pretend that these historical/current facts simply dont exist

Not that China was a perfect utopia or anything under Mao but the economics of China under the planned economy grew its GDP by 18.9% from 1964 to 1967. That’s almost unheard of today. This is according to both the international banks and the Chinese national banks. The economy begun to stagnant briefly in 1967 but was recalibrated in 1969. It was only when Deng introduced the market reforms that the GDP shrank by 6%. China’s economy from 1988 to 1999 only grew roughly 2% and this was after re-nationalizing key economic sectors. China utilizes dirigisme as an economic system that preserves capitalist social relations but has state involvement to the point of being a director of industry. Otherwise called State Capitalism, or Corporatism. If you look at the world bank’s GDP growth rates annually China has been slowly stagnating alongside the US and the U.K. This is also prior to Covid-19 outbreaks as well.

Well, that's the advantage of planned economy. Capital accumulation is not needed to develop the economy nor is market response, so it grows extremely faster than capitalism, even when it's quite bureaucratic. That's why soviet Union could become an international super power in less than 50 years. However we can't tell there wasn't problems, but they could be solved soon or later if China hadn't been dominated by revisionists.
