I got my Dark Light like a month or so ago. And it has been WONDERFUL. It just has so much character! So many cool and weird and wonderful tones. It's not your standard reverb, and that's what makes it cool. The Dark Star and the Sunlight are both very quirky, "opinionated" reverbs. They behave almost like their own instruments, rather than like traditional ambient space emulation. And bring them together in one (very beautiful) box unlocks all sorts of possibilities that wouldn't exist with the pedals in isolation. It's floaty, it's sparkly, it's dreamy, it's brooding, it's somber, it's gritty, it's... unlike any pedal I've ever owned.

You say the words I would also say about this pedal. They aren’t just reverbs in the sense they are unique textural instruments wielding reverb as a paintbrush the room be it the canvas. Much like Stefan used them here. Really lovely

I think it's important to not think of Dark Star, Sunlight and hence also Dark Light as a traditional reverb. It's a transformative texture machine. An ambient drone delight. I recommend exploring the 100% wet sounds in this thing. The sounds that carry you away from the traditional transients of a guitar and takes you into swelling symphonic soundscapes. I really think that's where it shines.

Yes, Dark Star is in Dark Light alongside the Old Blood Noise Sunlight. Both sides act exactly like the normal pedals would. Here you just have them in one box where you can run them together in different ways and in stereo as well if you want.

Hi Stefan! I got the Darklight a while back, and it seems like it has a hard time when there are TRS in stereo pedals behind it… Have you found a workaround for this?
@jeremythebeer86094 ай бұрын
For my son, do I buy a Screen Violence or Dark Light? He's into everything: Tenor Sax (50%), guitar (35%) and piano (15%). I want to keep his interest going towards music (instead of video games). I've got him a Katana 100 MkII and the Boss RC-5 Looper.
@thepedalzone4 ай бұрын
Gosh, tough one. All comes down to what your son wants to create and probably also how well-versed he is in the world of pedals. Dark Light is definitely a slightly more complex pedal compared to Screen Violence, and it's also much more experimental in its sounds than Screen Violence.

I have an afterneath at the beginning of my chain. Would you run this at the end or with the afterneath before it? I'm curious. I currently have a night sky and ventris at the end of my chain.
@thepedalzone9 ай бұрын
All depends on how you intend to route Dark Light. If you're playing in stereo, then I think it should go after the Afterneath, since Dark Light sounds glorious in stereo. But if you're playing in mono, then definitely experiment with placing Dark Light at the very beginning of the chain. It's main super powers lies in its highly transformative all wet tones, that can turn your instrument into something completely different. And something like that is fun to send down stream into other effects

Hey mate does this pedal have delay and reverb?
@thepedalzone9 ай бұрын
It’s two Old Blood reverb pedals in one pedal (Dark Star and Sunlight, hence the name Dark Light). If you’re not familiar with those two pedals, then I recommend you check out my in depth demos of them in my channel :) Both sides have 3 different reverb modes, and some of them can be made into sounding somewhat like a delay, but it’s definitely not your conventional delay tones. You can get cascading slapbacks via the Comb mode on the Light side and you can get dark pad-like sonar echoes via the Delay setting on the Dark side. Hope this helps :) So in short, it’s a textural reverb pedal, but you can coax delay-like sounds from it if you want to
@crackedblackpepperandrocksalt9 ай бұрын
@@thepedalzone sounded awesome. Almost like the old super Nintendo, Dreamcast, PS1 fighting Kombat games. Killer instinct, Tekken, street fighter
Any differences if you use the two separate pedals together vs this combined version?
@thepedalzone9 ай бұрын
Yeah, there's a bunch of differences. You have multiple routing options in this one. Series Mono, Parallel Mono, mono -> stereo and true stereo. Then you have the Spread control which gives you control over the stereo separation of the two sides for a myriad of sound design options. And the hold switch lets you Hold and sustain the two sides at the same time, or individually, or switch between them, depending on how you set it up.
