It's a cold, grey day in the English Midlands, but that was 17 minutes of warmth and light. I love how OBNE have taken something simple and created a tool of great compositional potential. Thank you, Stefan, for brightening up my afternoon. ❤️

... knew WHO he was going to be. He was going to be a musician. Because that's all he had ever wanted to be. And he was going to make that happen no matter what. "Please remember!" he begged. He pleaded. "Please remember! You cant let me die this way! You're betraying me! You can't do this to me! Remember! Remember!!! PLEASE!!!" And I did. I remembered. When I heard Stefans song that he was playing on the SUNLIGHT pedal. That hauntingly beautiful melody. I once created things like that. Things of beauty. Things of tragedy. And things of beauty all over again. That was ME. I did things like that too. I suddenly remembered who I was again. Suddenly remembered WHY my life IS worth seeing through until its natural end. Suddenly remembered why I shouldnt be THE PREMATURE CAUSE of that end. Why? Because I am a musician. And my life is worth living again because I remembered that. I am that starry eyed and determined kid that gave up so many things in his life to make sure that would be a reality. I couldn't have stopped him even if I had tried harder. He was not going to let ANYTHING get in the way of that. And he didn't. You see? It was him that I heard yelling at me as Stefan played the SUNLIGHT song that day. It was him yelling at me. SCREAMING at me from the top of his lungs from somewhere so far away in the distant past that his crys could have easily went unheard. Yelling... PLEADING with his older, depressed and near drowning self. Telling him to GET THE FUCK UP! That I couldn't let him die like this. Not here. Not now. I couldnt do that to him! Dont you understand??? He hasn't finished the music yet. WE haven't finished the music yet. I ordered the OBNE SUNLIGHT the very next day. As the sun was rising.
@tater73632 жыл бұрын
These guys pulled me back from the edge of a cliff with their review of the OBNE SUNLIGHT pedal. I was in a very dark place emotionally. Lots of not so great things hammering me. And all I could think about were things that would hammer me that were yet to come. I was watching the video. And something about the music they wrote for that review reached deep into my soul and shined a beam of light on me in the corner where I was crouched and hiding. And it was like something said to me "Get up. You arent supposed to be here. You're not done yet. You have more music to make. Music like this. You haven't finished the music. Get up." I was awake again. I was like someone who had just found religion. I went into full blown confession in the comment section. I told anyone who may have been looking at that moment every ugly truth that was going on in my life and every ugly certainty that was still to come. I deleted it later. And replaced it with a heartfelt thank you to these guys for inadvertingly pulling me out of that fire that was consuming me ( consuming me with heartbreaking visions of deaths of loved ones and feelings of helplessness and hopelessness ) with a beautiful piece of music that shook me awake. That screamed at me in beautiful ambience about the young man I used to be. Screamed at me. About how that younger me was seeing himself in this moment and pleading at me... begging me not to let him die like this. Reminding me of all of the hours he had spent alone. Learning how to play. Toiling hour after hour. Missing out on other things because he knew what he wanted to be in life.

"I have been Stefan as always." Is that a new license for Dad humor? I love it my friend. 😅 This demo amazed me. With the reverse functions I have on several pedals (Particle v2, DD-8, etc), you just don't have the control that the BL-44 has. I particularly loved how the octave up textured that shoegaze riff, and how the quantized pitches gave the phone app synths an almost granular repeat quality. (And you point-out how OBNE could even build upon this condensed reverse idea in the future). This pedal sits prominently on my wishlist. Thanks for such a great, in-depth demo!
