Blaine Bugaski Oh yeah, that looks like it was a fresh install in ‘99. Some plumbing supply house had a deal on a boiler, and fittings that had been forgotten in the warehouse since the early 60’s.
@cutrara75 жыл бұрын
Blaine Bugaski well that is a bet you would lose. steve titled the video is “old boiler with issues”. 20 years is not old. If it was less than 20 years old they would have replaced the old expansion tank up between the floor joists with a diaphragm expansion tank. Also I grew up in an early post-war home (late 1940s) and it had a poured concrete foundation. She’s a crusty one, Mr. Grinch!!!
@cutrara75 жыл бұрын
Blaine Bugaski the fact that all the tradesmen here are telling you the same thing... that you’re not even in the same flippin ballpark, yet you are so adamant to save face. We work with this stuff everyday. You don’t even know the difference between the old expansion tanks and modern diaphragm tanks. They were a game changer, were invented in 1954 by Amtrol (industry leader in ex tanks) and used exclusively since the 60s. You should probably just stick to real estate because you’re way out of your element here. This boiler ain’t no spring chicken y’all!

Wow that relief valve looks like it was off the titanic, that's was so bad. I thought that nipple was just gonna crumble, I hate when that happens, it's the worst. I've used a hacksaw and a chisel to get the piece out, it sucks.. that internal pipe wrench is amazing, I can't believe I've never seen them before.. I am ordering a set right now. That's such a lifesaver of a tool to have.. thanks for that steve!! You da man...

The differential was better at 20. It effects the low side of the control. At 10 the temp will drop 10 below set point and come back to where it was set. When set at 20 it will still come on when it drops 10 but won’t shut off until it’s 10 above set point. Set at 25 it will override set point by 15 degrees.
@brianmahoney1545 жыл бұрын
@@jcstevegigs so on both the high and the low side aquastat settings they will break at the temp set at and then make when the temp drops 10 degrees below set temp. This is fixed on a triple aquastat high side and can not be adjusted. But on the low side you can make changes. the low side will always make when it drops 10 degrees from the dial setting. The thing is that by raising the differential you will change the temperature it breaks at. Normally the differential is set at 10. This makes it operate as we expect it to. Let's say we have it set at 160. It will break when running from the low side at 160 and make at 150. Here's the thing. If we raise the differential to 15 and leave the temp setting at 160 it will still make at 150. But it will over ride and brerak at 165. That's where the extra 5 degrees go. If you set the differential to 25 it will again make at 150 but won't break until it climbs 25 degrees which is 175 degrees. This is a way to correct a not enough hot water call in the summer. Once the shower starts and drops the boiler temp to 150 it will make and stay running until it reaches the over ride set by adjusting the differential. If the differential is set to 25 the burner will run until the boiler temp reaches 175. So the shower problem should be solved. And the boiler will not come back on until the temp drops to 150.

Whats the attack plan if the nipple had broken off flush with the boiler casting? ... and the ID wrench wouldn't bite in the stub left in the boiler? Pondering what plan "C" would be?
@69thebroken5 жыл бұрын
As a pipe fitter in the fire industry we would grab our ridged nipple extractor (A.K.A Easy-out) as it very common that fittings break at the threads on old systems at the control valves.
@johnkrim83775 жыл бұрын
Had many nipples break off flush , you sometimes have to saw a groove in the piece and use a small chisel to get it out. Chemicals in the steam would eat the nipples away. Have a set of internal pipe wrenches for a long time.
