Awesome cemetery! Lucky to be so close to it. There is an old cemetery by me, that is from 1800’s and up, which has a lot of caved in graves and huge holes in the ground. Definitely scary to think that if you don’t watch, you could fall right into an old grave. I also enjoy the photos on the grave stones. Cool to see the person for your own eyes, and who they used to be. Love your content. 🖤🪦

It's one of a kind! I can relate to that! I've feel in holes and its no fun. Not good even if its open to the public. A picture says a 1,000 word! Thank you!

If I might make a suggestion.... always carry a pair of Needle Nose Pliers when investigating high grass areas that have cockleburs and goatheads like the ones stuck in your shorts leg and shoes. Because they very painful to remove with your fingers and regular tweezers don't help, because you can still stick yourself on the stickers you are removing. Needle Noses are longer handled.

That's a beautiful place... even with the overgrowth. It is unfortunate that there are exposed coffins, but for some reason, I felt a great peacefulness looking at them, no sadness. That was unusual, but I just go with whatever the overall feel of the place is. The size of it is incredible. Thank you, for the info, insight, & all you do! Especially, for the care and respect you have. Mad love & respect to you, sir. 🖤🔥🖤🔥🖤

The only thing I can find about the painting of the tombs is that it has historical significance. Some parishes tried banning brightly colored vaults, calling them gouache and garish. But allegedly, on All Saints Day, family members were supposed to tend to their loved one's final resting places. This included maintenance painting, which was supposed to be 3 coats of a lime wash to create a hard shell, though, in modern days, people use latex paint. Any plant growth was to be removed, and cement maintenance was done, often stripping the old cement and adding new. Not sure if this helps, but this was what I could find regarding the history!

I've got what 6 enches mean when I look at my palm. When they clean the ground and cut the grass then the grass begins growing better. They need to pour the grass with solution of vinegar and a dishwashing liquid and solt. I know some places where they ware pink uniforms.

An old friend has family in Baton Rouge. He more or less fell out, years ago but I talk to his son now and then. I'll mention that there are cemetaries in need of people who care to make them presentable again. They have a big family, possibly someone related could be interred at one of the places.

It needs it for sure. I filmed another cemetery that is completely over grown few months back and boy does it need some work... i have yet to post it so sometime down the road it will be out lol.
@fakeulove94403 ай бұрын
i wish I lived closer; I'd take time out of my day to just keep the grass/weeds down. Not much a private person can do about the caskets being exposed, but at least if the dead are respected.

I have a viewer who mention this cemetery to me 3 years ago, and he or she told me to take a look. When I was doing my research on this cemetery.. the day before, volunteers would come out and work on the cemetery.

Most of that cemetery has what are called concrete surface vaults. The only part of that vault that should be showing above the ground should be just the lid or top. There should be no trees in a cemetery. All the damaged vaults you see is probably from limbs that fell from the trees. The City of Baton Rouge should make the Church or Cemetery Committee fix those problems. That is Sad and completely unacceptable.

Perhaps the degraded graves should be disassembled and the remains put in an ossuary with a memorial plaque to identify the remains . Europe has that type of ossuaries as their graves are temporary.

The reason they paint the grave is so they can see it from far away the the reason the cemetery had a fence around the graves because back in the day they used to steal graves Woodbury someone that morning and that night they would dig them up

The painted tombs, they stand out in the cemetary, easy to find the loved ones grave in the mass of graves. No one monitors the cemetary obviously so why not paint it to make it easy to spot for relatives who visit.

Do you know what the oldest burial is at this cemetery? I just wondered when it was first established, and if it's older than Sweet Olive cemetery. It looks like a massive cemetery, it just went on and on. Yes, exposed coffins are so terribly sad. Also the holes in the cemetery grounds.. I am sure part of it is because of the elements but is part of it caused by native wildlife in Louisiana, and if so what animals make it their habitat? Sorry for all the questions. This was a wonderful tour. Thanks!
@DeadlyKnot3 ай бұрын
I'm not 100% sure. Some of those graves have dates and others don't. What I can do is giving you the Find A Grave Page and let you look thru the list. Not good having old coffins exposed to the elements as we already have enough out there as is. The holes are from everything. Nature, animals you name it. You're all good with your questions. I'll try and answer what I can. Here's the Find a grave page on the cemetery. www.findagrave.com/cemetery/1981956/lutheran-cemetery

@DeadlyKnot3 ай бұрын
Parts of Louisiana have low line water levels, if you bury the dead under the ground, a good rain, storm or hurricane will cause the casket to pop back up.
