This guy is great. Working in such confined spaces instead of just tearing down walls and ceilings. Saved the customer money and passionate in his work. Awesome accent and i love the little spot in his work truck for his dog. There simply aren't many people like him anymore.

I have a joke for you. A plumber goes to a doctor's house and works for 30 minutes, charges the doctor $10,000. The doctor is outraged. "I'm a doctor I don't make that kind of money." Plumber, "When I was a doctor I didn't either."

Good Joke, but only about (my estimation with 35 years experience) 5% or less of SELF EMPLOYED plumber's can earn as much as a Doctor. But if a self employed plumber knows how to Bill, is fast and not afraid to work until 10:00 pm (some nights) can earn $180,000 per year and maybe half of that in CASH 💰

A lot of times these old cast Iron tubs, because they've been in place since the house was built , they sink and sag along with the house framing. Typically the back end sets into the room and sags more with the floor than the drain end which is close to a wall....hence the pitch changes and pulls against the plumbing fixtures....The legs at drain end eventually loosen up and all the weight rests on the drain plumbing . I've seen them actually rock back and forth from side to side once the floor becomes uneven. Back in the day when one bathroom was sufficient...bingo...2nd floor with no type of first floor access panel so everything has be done from close quarters....pain in the butt, sometimes a BIG pain in the butt...lol

Hey Steve, love your videos. Im an Electrician by trade for 25+ years. Just wanted give you a shoutout and let you know I think you are true professional. You got to love all those tight places that we have to work in. God knows I've been stuck in some places I would sure love to forget. I have some great wrenches I wish I could just hand them to you through your video😀. So many hand slips and knuckle tears in situations like that over the years. It sure ain't like it was in our 20's of how fast and easier things were when we really became great mechanics but still had youth on our side😉. Anyway, sorry for writing a book and be well and stay safe from the CORONA---RONA!

I got an idea for a tool to help you remove those strainers. They probably make one, however, I made a home made one to help me with a faucet install here. Get a cheap deep-set socket, say 7/8" or so. Now take your grinder and cut a slot through the middle, making the slot about 1/4" wide and 1" deep. This socket placed on a ratchet extension with a ratchet will be the cat's meow for ease and torque in removing/installing those strainers. .

My favorite cousin Pete told me, "You have to pay to play." My cousin, is a Doctor in the trades. He's a son of a Doctor. (silestone /granite counter tops) he would gripe against the cabinet carpenters level/shoddy werk . . He made it work just like you. And it was beautiful. seams, back splash sink, soap dispenser. He broke his Chevy Silverado in half hauling stone from MPLS. to N. Minnesota. The old Gundy. Home Depot installer.

hi Steve, good job there mate. I've only dealt with one cast tub and as far as I can see there a ticking time bomb, sooner or later no matter how good you seal it the rust will pop and flake and it'll start leaking. keep up the good work.

I was curious about this fix. Should you test the leak with someone's body weight in the tub while it's full of water? The weight of the water along with the body weight could possibly cause a bit of movement to the fix, no? Again, no plumber here. I understand the tub is on legs but would there be slight movement which could cause the fix to adjust so to speak.

You should have put pipe dope or tape on the overflow fitting also. The tub was probably moved rearward and needed to be slid forward to makeup the overflow piece better. That was probably the reason the overflow started leaking in the first place. Good job as always.

Michael Licitra , you are exactly right on tub location issue. Way too much wrenching also, the next guy will not have fun fixing. Also a no no using pliers on tubing, can ovalize and will leak, strap wrench works fine with dope on threads. I fixed these kind of tubs/showers and removed/replaced to install new floors in the 60's, for a landlord, did about 25 of them.

My clawfoot is so old, that the drain opening in the tub is built in, with just a crossed iron on the inside. I had one of those pop up drains, but hair still passed through, so I took that out, and jerry-rigged a temporary fix, but the opening well is concave (or seems that way) and the drain stopper won't stay in place..lol. I'll get something on there eventually.

Great video, I have a situation where I'm replacing the copper drain shoe, but the pipe from the shoe to the tee is too short. Any ways to lengthen it? Someone at the hardware store recommended adding a extender.
