Old Cigar Cutter Restoration - Tool Restoration | Mister Patina
I bought this old cigar cutter online, when i received it, i couldnt find any brandings or marks on it. I think this old beauty is a handmade.
The Restoration of this cigar cutter took me about 12 hours. I started by disassembling and washing the metal parts. After that i sandblasted the parts in my sandblasting cabinet to get them rid of any rust and paint. A quick wirebrushing effects a nice finish for forther steps. So i blued some of the parts by heating them with my Volcano blowtorch and quenching them in oil. The remaining metal parts were sanded and polished, the blade was sharpened on a oilstone offcam. After the metalwork was done, i began restoring the wood parts by giving them the right angles, sanding and adding some wood oil. When reassembling, i used some (old) new screws and a new spring for the handle. Those parts were polished aswell. In the end i did the final test by cutting a way too thin cohiba and the rare orange cigar fruit ;-)
If you enjoyed the restoration, give it a like and a comment!
Thanks for watching!

Restoration videos like these are helping me to get through a very hard time, and ones that include a little humor like yours really help. Thank you for doing a wonderful job restoring these items, good film and editing work, and for adding in a little humor to what can be a very serious field of videos. You got a subscription from me, and I can't wait to watch the rest of your back log of videos and what you will do in the future.

Cigar cutter looks fantastic. Very nice job. Four issues that could have been done better: Use a bigger cigar, use a fresh cigar, sharpen the cutter, and replace the cigar stopper properly. Otherwise, great job!

@@misterpatina you didn't even use the depth plate at 15:45, you just eye balled how much you wanted to cut, if the piece was the other way around, the cigarette would have stopped on that metal thing (depth plate). I think it was premounted correctly

I tjink J.T. is correct. You cut cigars at the tip. The way it's set now, you wouldn't be able to set the gauge close enough for a proper cut.

Very nice restoration and great quality video. Looking forward to watching more of your content. I suggest making a larger, more robust, table for your belt grinder as it makes a huge difference and provides options for grinding and holding jigs. Replace the top "table" with (something like) a 100x50x10mm plate fixed with machine screws to a 75x20x10mm arm. I made a new fixing point by drilling an 8mm hole and welding a nut behind the existing mounting point, which i removed. Replace the bottom "table" with a 75mm length of 12mm round bar, drilled and tapped (M8) to 25mm and attached to the existing mount with an M8 bolt. I did these modifications to make a sharpening system for turning tools, but they have been of great benefit for tool restoration.
