@@soundofnellody262 Haven't really thought about it, but I obviously haven't completed ALL the content in Cyberpunk, I've mostly stuck with the main story line, the side character storylines (Panam, Judy, River and Kerry), a few of the more prominent side quests when I coincidentally came across them, and (I'm pretty sure) every gig in the game. It never felt like I was rushing it, but I probably didn't take the time to explore every nook and cranny I came across either, especially on the second and third playthrough, where I knew where I was going most of the time. I also haven't done all the side characters on all my playthroughs - though I've completed them all once, only Judy and Panam have been completed on every playthrough.

Yes, this one is soo good. So a little background: This piece is actually played in various ways in the game. Most of the time, in shootouts, like when you have to shoot some bad guys. Also, this is a theme song! This is the theme of Johnny Silverhand, a fictional punk-rocker, like a really shitty, selfish but badass person played by the one and only Keanu Reeves! He even nuked an office building in the middle of a city! Anyway, this has many variations in the game, my favorite is at the ending, where it mixes with another theme from the game and has like electronic cellos (if that's a thing), real chilling at that moment!!! I was waiting for you to react to this, and I'm not disappointed!

The first flashback to the nuking of Arasaka Tower had a strong “fight evil with evil” vibe to me. It was a bit of a shock to the system for me, I’d been playing an exclusively nonlethal sneaky/stealthy V up to that point, and suddenly as Johnny I’m blowing heads off left and right and planting a nuke in a building for unknown reasons with zero regard for the surrounding city.

The really cool thing about that beat you highlight is about as long as the reload animation of Johnny's pistol. The pistol itself has a very throaty, powerful blast when you shoot it, so it acts like extra percussion, and the beat in the background syncs with each time you reload, making the entire sequence feel incredibly slick and cool!

Cyberpunk 2077 has an incredible soundtrack that often gets overlooked, or is only seen at a surface level. The thought put into the soundtrack is so deep and complex, the music in this game almost becomes both a character and a storytelling avenue itself. Nearly every character, faction, major event, and emotion has their own leitmotifs, soundscapes, and instruments tied to them. The genius comes from how these can be blended together. Playing one faction's leitmotif using the instruments and soundscape of a character not normally affiliated with them can tell the story of conflict between those two entities using only audio. Taking a theme that has normally been very upbeat and full of energy, bringing it down, using a different soundscape and adding some somber vocals can tell the story of regret and reflection on past actions. The music in this game is so powerful and so closely intertwined with the world and the characters that players can form visceral emotional reactions to some of the music, like reliving a traumatic event or nostalgia of time spent with a friend no longer here. Absolutely brilliant work. I can't praise this game and it's music enough.

That pretty much quantifies why that final song that plays during the split at the end is so meaningful. V and Johnny's versions of the theme play in synchronisation, then slowly drift from one another to represent them separating. It's a beautiful way to present it, and I was hooked. That was only possible thanks to the rest of the soundtrack really hammering in the leitmotif enough that I'd understand what was being communicated.

Very cool thing about this song is, since it's basically the theme song for rockerboy Johnny Silverhand (frontman of the band Samurai) throughout the game, it uses a leitmotif from one of Samurai's songs called The Ballad of Buck Ravers. The main melody that comes in around 2:44 is actually the opening riff of The Ballad of Buck Ravers! Cyberpunk 2077 actually makes great use of leitmotifs from Samurai tracks. You can hear melodic references to The Ballad of Buck Ravers, Chippin In, and Never Fade Away pretty much everywhere in the OST of the game. It's SO COOL

This type of EDM is very interesting, there are a few different styles mixed into it, specifically "Synthwave" and "Retrowave", which give those blade runner vibes, break core, which is the sort of off beat pacing, and the part that wraps it together is "Industrial EDM" which is using a lot of metal and strange sounds you'd hear in a creepy factory. More like this would be from an artists called Hyper, he also made the track Spoiler which was used in the cyberpunk 2077 trailer. Retrowave and Synthwave is pretty much taking retro beats and remaking them with a modern twist. Love it.

There's a making-of video (Night City Wire Episode 5) featuring the composers for 2077's soundtrack where they talk about their design philosophy for creating the game's score. They wanted to take a variety of electronic genres "out of the 80s and give them a 90s flair." They wanted the score to be almost PURELY electronic, but stuck to analog synths as much as possible because "it's got a warmth to it." They also incorporated other instrumentation, such as cello performed by Tina Guo, and drums by Ilan Rubin.

Basshead here! I believe this genre would be midtempo bass. Sharing aesthetic qualities (mainly heavy/dirty/textured bass synths) with what I'll call "modern dubstep," but with a typical bpm of 90-110 instead of dubstep's 140 (but felt in 70). Artists such as Rezz are currently bringing a lot of attention to this subgenre, check out her album "Spiral" for some good examples. A couple of the best examples are "Sacrificial," "Chemical Bond," and "Time." EDM is SO diverse and interesting and has so much to offer, I strongly encourage everyone to do a little digging, you'll almost certainly find something you like! Glad to see another composer appreciate this score, although there are a lot more things to talk about in this track alone! There is a layer of electric cello, played by Tina Guo (amazing cellist, on almost every one of Hans Zimmer’s scores!). She plays both ambience / background with heavy effects as well as doubling the melody at the latter part of the song. That “transformer sizzle” you hear is likely the GameChanger Audio Plasma effect, which one of the composers has in his rack (can be seen during an interview) and it magnifies the voltage of incoming audio and runs it through a xenon tube. The result is a very fuzzy, gated, wildly out of control distortion. I love mine!

I've heared it while playing the game but now really listening to it consciously i hear a short story there. It starts out with this ominous part, like a growing anxiety pushing onto you. Then the bass comes in almost like footsteps, someone moving forward dispite the anxiety. After a few steps the melody kicks in like the reveal of person that just walk onto the screen, as if this bit of melody is a personality surrounded by the anxiety that's all around it and pushing onto it but the person is still moving forward. The melody only rarely coming out but the bass always being there. Moving forward is the more important part also support by the "steps" starting before the "personality" appeared. Then it all suddenly stops, something happened! The next we hear the melody it seems distorted, changed. As if whtaever that break was has changed the personality so that the anxiety got into it and became a part of it. From then on the melody is very present up until the abrupt end. Its a great soundtrack for a game in night city!

Also, recommendations: - Chris Remo - Firewatch OST - Final Fantasy 7 Remake OST - Uncharted 4 OST - Gustavo Santaolalla - Last of Us Part I and Part II OST, especially Part II's 'Unbroken' and or 'Collateral' because they are very emotional, but like it's not the typical music kinda way - Evan Call - Violet Evergarden OST (it's not a game, but geniunally the best orchestral music I have ever heard, I'm not even joking)

This track also has a cello version which features a cello in the first 30 seconds or so which mirrors the main melody of the chorus. This song is featured in a mission where you are attempting to plant a bomb at a mega corporation. The cello not featured in this version of the track plays as you fly in on a helicopter. The music changes during the mission between slow points of dialogue and running between fights where the sections that are slower play, and during the fights you get the full song. And it makes you feel like a complete badass

I think his noting that it sounds like transformers blowing up really fits really well with Johnny Silverhand, the character in the game this is the theme for. That character is supposed to have his reflexes wired up to eleven, so it fits.

It's an amalgamation of 80's punk wave/post punk, synth-pop, Drum N Bass better yet dubstep, and Glitch. I dig eerie metallic icy tunes like this and it's perfect for such a gritty game as Cyberpunk 2077. This track is played as V is going on missions or in some sort of dire situation. It repeats in different instances of the game.

The missions this song plays in make me feel like such a badass. You are basically Keanu Reeves at this point and so overpowered. The Cyberpunk 2077 soundtrack is phenomenal! I am so happy to see video game music getting more and more recognition. Some of the best music I have ever heard comes from games.

This song occurs in multiple places in the game. The intro cinematic before the title screen, combat, a different take on it that is more sinister, and a background almost ambient feeling style are the versions I can think of.

Cyberpunk music is perhaps one of the best things that have happened in my life and what I've heard. The best world for me, and the best music, becoming the first and only to enter my offline playlist. I recommend listening to "Been Good to Know Ya" by Marcin Przybyłowicz from Cyberpunk 2077.

Great video man! The game and music is made by the same people behind ''The Witcher 3''. I'd love to see you react to more music from both of these games! I also want to say I really enjoy your breakdown of the production, it's very insightful and interesting. I very much appreciate you! By the way, this kind of music can be categorized as ''midtempo'' in the edm world :)

The Cyberpunk 2077 OST is absolutely breathtaking and almost as much of an achievement as the game itself. The themes ratchet up the intensity and fill out the soundscape of the game so, so well. This song is the very first song you ever hear when you load the game up and it gives me chills to this day.

The game isn't an achievement of anything. The Ai is over a decade out of date. The world is not interactable in any way. There are horrible texture and asset streaming issues due to an unoptimized and half assed game engine that they had to develop in parallel with the actual game itself. The story is entirely on rails outside of one questline that they used in marketing repeatedly. Cutscenes resolve themselves successfully regardless of if the player participates or not. I could go on and on without even touching the bugs still in the game after all this time. The OST is amazing though. One of the best and most unique of any game. And this isn't the first song you hear when you load the game. V's theme is the first song. This one is Johnny's theme that you hear later on in the game.

I love that main melody. The same motif comes up a few times, even as the guitar riff of a song of a fictional band in the game. But the OST use of this motif.. it is just so haunting and foreboding in the best possible way.

when speaking on the meanacing soundscape there is a violin at 8:04 (i think) in the back that hits a note right in between a major scale (again i think), and is drawn out until the end of the song, that just UNNERVES me. one major theme of the game is Johnny Silverhand (keanu) basically infecting V, and this sound in the back of this song just sounds sickly. thank you i never noticed this until you talked about the soundscape

to answer the question with regard to the locations this plays at, it is the generalized combat music, whenever enemies see you or you enter a hostile area, this music starts playing, although it also plays in a few of the menu screens, so it's basically the game's theme in many player's minds.

I couldn't help myself, I said "Goooood morning, Night City!" when the track started. This song is used a lot in different scenarios, it's also the intro of the game. It's also the loading screen when you start with a TV/radio personality reading back the news as if your character is listening to it while the game loads. The news changes as you progress in the game and they mention things that you were involved with. This game has a very fun soundtrack.

I have one for you. Please please please. This one is heavy rock based. It's the opening to an older anime from the 90's called Trigun. The title is H.T. and composer is tsuneo imahori. The whole sounds track is this grungy rock but the opening theme sets the tone. It's one of my favorite rock anime mixes.

I just finished the game several weeks ago, what an experience, they even have a whole series of radio stations with different styles of music to select from, alongside the background music. The finale scene music really made an impact for me with the cello which I believe is played by Tina Guo, who did the Wonder Woman theme and toured with Hans Zimmer, and will be on the latest Kamelot album.

It's not possibile to understand this track without playing the game. It's a non stop calling back to themes and sounds evoked during the run, and it is a real punch entering in Arasaka Tower with this music comment. Plus, the simple line theme is been used again in Mikoshi with cello: it's clearly the theme tapeworm going trough V brain and soul, dramatic when V has to face his destiny and powerful in "the rebel path" were he/she decides to embody Johnny's rage (plus, it is a fill passage also in "Never fade away"). That's the point of OST, above all the ones so brillant like this: it add a level to writing and story, and without context are less effective.
@Cyromantik

_The Rebel Path_ still gives me chills. The neat thing about the overall OST of Cyberpunk 2077 is that there's the sound track for the world, fighting music and themes which are already brilliant by composers Marcin Przbybylowicz, P.T. Adamczyk and Paul Leonoard-Morgan, but also the radio stations that provide diagetic music for smaller areas that V, the player character, walks into or rolls past. The fictitious Samurai band, for instance is played by Refused, a real-life punk band from Sweden. Regardless of what happened at launch (at no fault of the devs in the trenches), absolutely no one at sound design, music or Foley did anything less than their one hundred. The soundscape of Cyberpunk 2077 is a generational treat, and Phantom Liberty cranks it way past 11.

Geeeeeeeeebz, there's a whole host of music you should check out from the Cyberpunk 2077 tracks. My top 3 would probably be the Never Fade Away cover by P.T. Adamczyk and Olga Jankowska, Black Terminal (Upgrade), and Major Crimes. The first and last have a lot of emotional weight to them, and the second one is a good, very cyberpunk sounding track. Merry early Christmas, and hope ya have a good new year too

To me, this song [symbolically] is the end of a hero's journey. The entire game you've been building resources. New contacts, getting better equipment, and building yourself up to being a legend from what at the beginning was a new kid on the block. But musically, it's a major call to action. At this point in the story where this song is fully utilized, your life and your ability is burning away: fast. You're on a timer, and it's just as much a fight for survival as it is a fight for what needs to be done to allow the world to start healing. It's putting the goal in front of you and asking one final time: "Are you ready for what comes next? Even if you have to face it alone?".

I think the first time you run into this song is just after you meet Jackie Welles. There is kind of a montage that shows that the two of you end up hanging together and working together over a considerable period of time. To the point that when the next segment of the game starts, you are practically a part of his family.
