Of course, in the heat of reacting to the engineering and composition, I have to say; THAT MELODY the singer is singing is so dynamic/powerful from his growl to soaring hook - immense talent!!!
@TrappedByCats3 жыл бұрын
@president elect George Kirby I completely understand what you mean about the lack of emotions, and when he touched on the vocalist in the video, it clarified what always stopped me from truly liking Haken. The vocalist is very tight in his range during the chorus in most of the songs I've heard from them. What I mean is typically, a chorus has a more diverse range that sort of highlights the vocals as the driving force behind that section, but for Haken it seems to be the complete opposite in the sense that the way they choose to highlight the vocals is by holding a very small range of octaves. Nothing's wrong with it and they certainly choose to write it that way, but it just doesn't do it for me.

Fun Fact: I first learned about Alan Watts from a piece of a lecture The Contortionist included in one of their songs. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iXfLfmqdpaiXjqM Transcript: In other words, that the so called involuntary circulation of your blood is one continuous process with the stars shining. If you find out that it’s you who circulates your blood you will at the same moment find out that you are shining the sun. Because your physical organism is one continuous process with everything else that is going on. Just as the waves are continuous with the ocean. Your body is continuous with the total energy system of the cosmos and its all you. Only you’re playing the game that you’re only this bit of it.

Had never heard of them prior to buying tickets for Devin, but gave them a listen on Spotify and thought they were alright. They played this track at that show, and the drummer really sold me on the band as a whole just from being 10 feet away on this song. They are so damn good and fill a niche that I didn't know needed filling with their style. It's a real fusion of 70s-80s prog rock and modern heavy metal, and I doubt many bands out there could really pull this off.1

The Architect, Falling Back to Earth, Cockroach King, 1985, Atlas Stone? Haken(rhymes with Taken) are super versatile that are heavily rooted in old school prog with modern metal stylings. From their more experimental early albums(Visions, Aquarius) to their more refined Sophomore albums like Affinity, are just a breath of fresh air in the Prog Scene.

Glad you finally got around to listening to them! Btw it's Hay-Ken (They used to have a shirt essentially saying "Sounds like Bacon") I've said it before, I'll say it again! For their magnum opus, please, check out "Visions" from 'Visions (Reissue 2017)' Or for something new and very different, yet still very much Haken, check out "Messiah Complex I-V". By the way, you'll find a lot of 'Yes' like harmonics in the vocals with huge octave range, Yes, Gentle Giant and King Crimson are massive inspirations for these guys. A lot of people underappreciate them, and they'll often have only heard one or two of their songs, and dismiss as such. Keep up the good work!
