Two Steps from Hell is by far one of my favorite instrumental (or epic music) bands. They got me into listening to more instrumental stuff. Honestly their entire track list would be worth of a react. Though some of my personal favorites are Skyward, Heart of Courage, Nemesis, Sariel to name a few

It's hard to go wrong with Two Steps From Hell. I'd definitely look at High C's, especially the video where they recorded the orchestra playing it. Thomas Bergersen is just one of the composers in Two Steps From Hell, and they've got a huge variety and many different styles and inspirations. Well worth the listen.

If you go through their oldest work, t's pretty easy to go wrong tbh lol. Lots of generic music. But yeah - High C's, Dragonland, Fearless, Race to Durango, We Are Legends, Enchantress, Secret Melody, basically anything from the new album Myth - all really good stuff.

Yes an interview with Thomas Bergersen would be great, would love to hear him discuss what sample libraries he uses and what he does to make his compositions sound so realistic as if they are being performed by real musicians (when he is not using real performers that is) 😃👍
@monemusic1428
@monemusic1428 Жыл бұрын
Believe it or not, Thomas actually uses sample libraries that he's created by himself for his own personal use. The vast majority of his music is recorded with a live orchestra, but there are a couple rare gems that use entirely his samples. "That's A Wrap" is probably the craziest example, but also the original upload of "One Million Voices" from 2019ish was also 100% samples.

Awesome! You finally reacted to my favorite composer! Thomas Bergersen is such a musical genius in the Epic Orchestra world and he also leads, alongside with another brilliant composer Nick Phoenix, Two Step from Hell which pioneered and dominated the Epicore industry. They even finished concluding their live tour in Europe this past year with another one on the horizon later in 2023. What I loved about their music that with every songs, it was there to provoke your emotions and take you on a journey, thereby making you feel more connected to music. I can't wait for you to review more TSFH music and I highly recommend their another popular song 'Impossible' which is composed by Thomas and it have multiple genre mixed together flawlessly. I would loved to see you react and break it down

Still here! I think there's something to be said for being predictable but not in a bad way. Songs need something predictable to be accessible by listeners, which usually means predictable keys, tempos, instruments, chord progressions, but then it needs a little bit that is unpredictable to make it interesting. Sometimes the fun of a song is wondering if the choral buildup will pay off or if we'll be hoodwinked by a different instrument taking over the melody.

This is actually true. Our brains are looking for logical shortcuts and patterns non-stop in everything. This is an evolutionary thing and this is how biases are surfacing for example. When e are listening to music, our brain is searching for patterns trying to predict non-stop what you will hear next. When your brain gets it close to right, you feel satisfaction.

It's always so fun watching people analyze & enjoy music, I'm so glad I discovered you! Now, I'm not sure if anybody's recommended this before, but as a fan of all genres & world music in general, I think you'll find it interesting listening to the Genshin Impact OST! The game frequently draws from culture around the world for their game design & music (Northern Europe, East Asia, SSWANA, and more in the future). Some of my favorites are "Sumeru", the main theme for Sumeru (one of the nations in the game), & "The Divine Damsel of Devastation" (which is a story teaser technically). As for more intense ones, all the phases of La Signora & Scaramouche's battle theme songs are pretty good! Yu-Peng Chen is one of my favorite composers because of how creative Genshin's music is to be honest. There are 11-ish albums of the game's OST on KZbin as of writing this, and there are a ton of great tracks in there!

It's been a lot of fun discovering your channel and seeing your perspective on different kinds of music! If you are interested, I recommend listening to the Genshin Impact OST! There's a whole bunch of really good music in that game that you might find interesting. I would recommend listening to Azhdaha's Battle Theme (especially if you like rock/metal), La Signora's Battle Theme, and Scaramouche's Battle Theme, as they're some of the best in the game so far. Anyways, thanks for all your hard work and looking forward to seeing what you react to next!

I'm still here! I enjoy the in depth talks. Some of the parts that you describe, like musical terminology and what the composer is doing, is very interesting. I do find some of it goes over my head though. I remember one with one of the OST tracks you mentioned some words, they kind of sounded Italian, and I had no clue what those words meant. I'd love a video, maybe as a short, to quickly describe what some of these terms mean. Like, one terminology, one example piece, a quick description. That may be a lot more work tho.

If you'd like more Halo, I think you'll find a largely undiscovered gold mine in the Halo 3: ODST soundtrack. It's top-bloody-notch, as is standard for Halo, but it's _very_ different from the epic/heroic vibe of the rest of the Halos. For in ODST, you are not Master Chief -- you're a regular soldier. Try "Traffic Jam", or "Deference for Darkness". Two very different vibes. If you do end up listening to either of those -- I'll give you brief context for the game, since it's very different from the rest of the Halos: The entire game is you, the player, finding clues for the whereabouts of the rest of your squad in the ruined city of Mombasa. You will be so lonely for most of the game that finding the enemy is a _relief._ "Deference for Darkness" is more to that feel, while "Traffic Jam" plays for a particular part where you find a tank and help an encircled platoon of marines out of a death trap by driving it through the alien lines like a battering ram.

This piece is cool, but for Bergersen it's not especially dynamic. My recommendation would be Bergersen's "We Are Legends" - unfortunately the full version isn't on KZbin, but I think it's up on Spotify and other places. If there're copyright issues with that then maybe try Mountain Call from the same project or High C's from an earlier album. Honorable mentions: Enchantress, Flight of the Silverbird, Secret Melody, Wild Heart, Our Destiny, Creation of Earth, or the live version of Impossible. This dude has a LOT of material, and most of it is better than Protectors of the Earth. :P

Geebz, I think you should react to the Shadow of the Colossus OST, that game has some of the most iconic orchestral video game pieces in my opinion. A good track to start with for that would be The Opened Way, but you would likely have to do a slow burn session or something for that game's music because most of the tracks are only around 2 minutes in length. Regardless you should look into it! I think you'll enjoy it :)

Unrelated but I think you would enjoy a reaction to a soundtrack from a game by Supergiant Games, the guy who makes the music for their games, Darren Korb is a long time friend of one of the founders iirc, he works in house with the studio, and he basically takes a bunch of different styles and merges them to create the vibe he wants for the game, and he’ll name them, Transistor might be a good start, Old Friends is a fantastic song that really sets the mood for the game and was used in the trailer The art for their games is also absolutely gorgeous (Shoutout to Jen Zee)
