Old Concord Stagecoach Road in (Land O' Lakes) Florida

A glimpse into this area of Land O' Lakes, Florida was once the Concord Stagecoach Road in the 1800's now part of Route 54 in Pasco County, a busy highway today. The area is rapidly growing but at one time was a quiet country area, the nearest city is Tampa. Several small towns surround this place including Lutz, Wesley Chapel and New Tampa. During the 1800's and early 1900's the area was part of many small communities. During the 1950's they combined to form the current town of Land O' Lakes. The nearest town is Wesley Chapel which is over a 100 years old. The area is one of the fastest growing places in the country. Many subdivisions, restaurants, malls and other development is occurring. The area is forever changed, much of the old history has been paved over. Thanks for the ride along FT and the links about history of the area. It's hard to believe that there was a stagecoach running through this area. When you think of them they're in the Old West. Pasco County has grown so much since I lived there in the 70's!🚵🐎

We get a whole 'nuther vantage point as we accompany FT over those boardwalk/bicycle paths. It's been a long time since I, myself, have been through these northern, Greater Tampa areas. Human lifespans really aren't much better than those of fireflies when you want to take in the long view of human progress (or regress? Depends on how much you're down with Rousseau). It would be great if there was a Disney-type time-elapsed film depicting the development of this area over the last 500 years.

You were a stone’s throw from my house 👍 I’ve lived along SR54 for 26 years. Like you pointed out, there have been a lot growth/changes. When my son was in LO’L Little League I used to sneak away during practices and go explore around the neighborhoods on 20MLR and Black Jack Ln…Lots of history there.

Really nice bike ride. Cool to see the before and now. So much development going on everywhere. Yet so many developed areas are sitting vacant. Like why not clean up the old messes before clearing new areas. That’s one thing I’ve noticed in our area.

Is the old pet cemetery still there? I haven’t been down that way in a long time. I live in Cypress Estates which hooks into the Stage Coach subdivision. I remember visiting the pet cemetery when we first moved out here in the 90s. I was a kid and it was pretty spooky.

A girl found a huge Indian spearhead at that pond in the 1930s. It's on display at the Pioneer Museum.
