Hi everyone! I'm excited to share some of the Christmas magic from my childhood and show how it inspired me in my Christmas decor. It's definitely not like everyone else out there - no hauls or "viral trees" but mostly things I've used for years, and some that are on my grandparents' tree in the video. I hope you find a moment of peace in this video:-) I'm working on the kitchen, and it is totally "The Waltons" 1930s inspired including some things I sourced from the set:-) Coming next week!!

The older I get the more sentimental I get. I love the old memories as well. Last year I got out my doll cradle that I got when I was very small. Then got the box of old toys that I saved. The toys went in the cradle and I just had a very memory filled Christmas. Oh if we could just keep hanging onto those the world would be sweeter ❤️ Sorry for your families loss🙏

When I was a boy growing up Christmastime was always magical and my parents made it so. Luckily I married a lady who loves Christmas as much as I do. I've been in law enforcement since 1987 and have missed many Christmas Eves and Days. But we still always managed to make it special for our sons and now their families. Thank you Mom and Dad for the traditions and love you passed down to us. And thank you very much for this video. You have put a smile on my face...and I've been told I don't smile much anymore.

I loved this, so much fun trying to recreate treasured memories from our childhood. I grew up in the early 60’s and my mom always made Christmas so special and with very little. Dad kind of just relaxed and enjoyed it 😂. I use many things that were my mom’s and my grandma’s too, silver tree with color light wheel, their ornaments, dolls and vintage toys of my past. My grandkids always say “Nonna, Christmas is so magical” and that makes it worth every ounce of the work. Due to my age, being disabled and things take lots longer, I start in mid November so that I can use only Christmas lights and my oil lamps starting on the first of December. Our home is decorated in a very primitive style, much like a little House on the Prairie and I just love the warmth, coziness and tranquility of it. Love how you’ve done yours bringing back such treasured memories❤🌲♥️. My nativity is my favorite part of mine and was a gift from my parents many years ago, my mom would gift me pieces to add to it each year, a set from Italy and being 100% Italian, a treasured part of our home too. God bless and Merry Christmas from our home in upstate New York to yours. Debby

My mother was born in 1930 and I have glimpses of her childhood Christmases during the Depression. One big one was that she and her two older siblings would go to bed on Christmas Eve with no tree in the living room and they awoke to find a wondrous, shining tree with a few (which was a very big deal in those lean years) presents underneath it. My grandfather worked all Christmas Eve delivering furniture to homes around our town so Nan did everything solo each Dec 24th: setting up and decorating the tree, preparing things for the next day - including making pies - etc. it sounds like a whole lot of work but that made Christmas so marvellous for their three children.

I think we may be kindred spirits! I too - especially after the passing of my mother have been trying to recreate that nostalgic vintage Christmas of the past. Honoring our parents and the traditions they established and the wonderful memories they made. I was fortunate to inherit some of my parents things and wish I would of appreciated it more when they were here. When I was younger and first married, I wanted to create my own decor. My mom asked me if I wanted their stuff when they downsized and I said “no” as I had my own! Big mistake! Fortunately I salvaged some of her treasures and I do treasure them now.I appreciate all forms of Christmas decor from the primitive to the glamorous- but in the past few years I’ve really gravitated to the magical memories of my Christmases past and certainly reflecting on the true meaning of Christmas- the birth of your savior ❤. Have a blessed Christmas with you and yours.

I think we all do that! There are so many things I wish I had from my childhood, but thankfully because my parents are living in my grandparents’ house, there were at least some boxes of decor that I could go through, and thank goodness I was older when I did it. What I would do if I could even just sit down with my grandparents right now and ask them all the questions I wish I’d asked when I was younger☺️☺️🙏🙏

Looks beautiful and so fun going down memory lane. My mother did the same and before they put up the artificial tree, years later, the trees from the tree lots were awful but now I appreciate their imperfections. It was going to pick out the tree that I loved! My mother would put on the tinsel one strand at a time. Since we didn't have a fire place my parents bought one of those cardboard fireplaces (anyone else have one?) so we could hang our stockings. When I was a young mom I found one somewhere and used it for my kids. Then I donated it to their elementary school after that Christmas so it could be used in the classroom or in school plays if needed. Oh the many great memories! Thanks Anita for sending us on our trips down memory lane and as always, your house is absolutely beautiful and oh so cozy!! The way Christmas should be (to me anyway)! Merry Christmas friend!
@WhisperingPinesHomestead Жыл бұрын
Oh wow that sounds wonderful! I have seen pictures of those fireplaces and would love to have a vintage one just for the nostalgia☺️☺️ Yes the imperfections are what I love! I used to just get a tree out of the woods here, and then I bought this tree because it looked like those old ones with the imperfections when I needed to do that photo shoot because I had to keep the tree up till February.

I searched on vintage Christmas tree decor and there you were! This is exactly what I was looking for. I've strayed from the old traditional decorations and started doing a snowman theme tree years ago. Now I'm drawn back to what I knew as a child and the 1930s as an era. I watched the original Waltons Christmas homecoming movie last night and bawled at the end..as I always do. I want to binge watch your entire channel but I need to get busy here at my home. Just watched your 2022 garden video too. Why have I not seen your channel before?

Your room is beautiful and it does evoke pre-WWII Christmases. I think your Victorian home trimmed with 1930’s-style ornaments is particularly accurate. Few people lived in new homes. A couple of your statements sparked memories for me…. Pink at Christmas: I inherited two boxes of my grandmother’s glass tree ornaments and several of them featured both pink and purple. Your mention of pink being used at Christmas decades ago clicked in my head and explained the presence of pink. I’m going to try and incorporate those pink ornaments next year (everything is decorated now). Thank you for the inspiration! The other thing you mentioned that grabbed me was displaying Christmas cards in the living room. Tree branches had much more vertical space between them back then and my parents and grandparents would sit the Christmas cards on the branches as they arrived in the mail (a few inches toward the trunk) to add extra colour and fill in the gaps to make the tree seem fuller. Merry Christmas from Eastern Canada!

1930's isn't my particular favorite era for Christmas, but I appreciate it. I was a kid in the 1960's, and although my mother had a fondness for her childhood Christmases in the 1930's, my dad preferred more modern Christmas decorations. The compromise: The tree in the basement was more 1930s with big lights, loose foil tinsel, round red and blue ornaments, a garland of colored construction-paper links, and a clunky, crooked star to top it all of. But in the living room, it was all 1960's - a bright aluminum Christmas tree, fancy shiny glass ornaments of all different shapes and colors, gold tinsel garland waves from top to bottom, and my favorite of all - a buzzing electric color wheel that changed the aluminum tree's color every few seconds. In later life, my mother's tree was decked out in small colored lights, all sorts of ornaments, and that gold garland - and that's pretty much what I've had, too. Ah, but I still dream of that big aluminum tree and that color wheel from my childhood living room!

Ah the 60s era Christmas is also a favorite of mine - sounds wonderful!! Also I’m obsessed with the Waltons, that 1930s era and the set design because my grandparents lived in the old house here, which was very similar to the one on the series☺️☺️

@@WhisperingPinesHomestead I do share your love of old houses, though. I like 'em big. I like 'em small. There is just something so artistic and special about them all (if in halfway decent condition, of course). I've always thought that if I had one (and had enough money), I would restore it to its period rather than take the heart out of it by "updating." When I iived in Illinois, a friend there had one built in the 1840's in a small city called Waukegan. His entire goal (perhaps with the exception of bathrooms) was to restore it to its original glory - right down to period wallpaper. It really was wonderful to see. We've lost so much artistry and erased so much history!

This is absolutely amazing! I love vintage Christmas items as well. I would say my favorite out of everything in that living room is your mantle. To know that you saved back pieces from your grandmothers Victorian house and incorporated into your own house is so touching. Your decorating of the mantle with the mantle clock surrounded by the hurricane lamps on each side is absolutely lovely. And to top it off the Kerosene heater is gorgeous. Everything you’ve done in this room is quite inspiring. Are the bottlebrush trees vintage or new or a mixture?

I can’t thank you enough for those kind words☺️☺️☺️ The trees are all mostly several years old, some I bought in a vintage “lot” about 12 years ago, but they’re not all that old I don’t think☺️

I love this video it brought so many memories back. Unfortunately, I became homeless and lost all of my antique and vintage Christmas. I'm on social security now so I cannot afford to repurchase items. Have a blessed Christmas! 2024. Jesus is the reason for the season 🎄✝️

What kind of lights on the tree look like the C 7
@WhisperingPinesHomestead Жыл бұрын
They are from tru-tone.com/pages/shop-c7-bulbs and I only bought two sets of just classic color bulbs because I already had light strings. They were $35 per set so two was all I could afford, but they are beautiful and will be worth it in the long run using less electricity☺️
