I made Chef Charles' ice cream today. The sweetened condensed milk adds a great flavor, however for my taste, the recipe calls for too much. Next time, and there will be a next time, I will cut the amount of condensed milk in half (use 1 can only, 14oz) and make up for its volume with equivalent whole milk (add 14oz or 2 cups). Thanks, Chef Charles!!!

Love your recipe. I made another one, as I got an Ice cream maker from my sister for my 60th birthday, last week. I didn't cook the base long enough or something happened. I don't know. I think this recipe is fantastic. My mom got an ice cream recipe from the milkman when I was a baby and we'd make it every 4th of July. I was in charge of turning the crank when I was 5 up until Elementary school. Very fond memories.

Thank you so much for sharing this recipe with us and how to make it! A friend followed your instructions here and made this for our church ice cream social, and out of seven different ice cream recipes and flavors presented, this was the number-one award-winning recipe and ice cream! Reminds me of when my mom made ice cream that tasted like this almost 70 years ago. We didn't have an ice cream churn at the time, so my mom poured it into metal ice trays with the dividers removed, in the freezer. Did I mention this is Old Fashioned Ice Cream? Love your humor and presentation. You have a new subscriber and may God bless you!

Yeah, you said “old fashioned ice cream “. Just like my mother from Mississippi used to make. Thanks for this recipe. I was looking for a recipe that used evaporated milk and a lot of eggs like she did. One unique thing she did was add vanilla and lemon extract.

Always allow the custard to cool before you pour it in plastic container for safety reasons. You do not want any plastic contamination in your ice cream.
