Yeah...most Game Boy games don't hold up that well, not even the first Mario Game Boy game. Allow me to present you with a couple of other options for that Game. Yes: it's got two very different remakes. The first remake is Sword of Mana. For the Game Boy Advance. Main catch is that the only legal way to play/stream it is with a GameCube and a Game Boy Player and a Game Boy Player disk plus using the old school ports for the output cables that allowed the display of the audio and visuals. That one has a retooled version of the base plot of the original game with simplified features that got started in Legends added to it, such as a forge and fruits/seeds for weapons, and the sprite style being very similar to the PS design of Legends. AND no longer having to use consumable items just to break rocks or unlock doors. You also get combos, the magic gets represented by the elementals, and the eight different weapons change how each element works as a spell. For example, using the knuckle weapon allows you to move the cast spell around with the DPad as you see fit. As for the other option, Adventures of Mana, it's a one to one remake with all original characters and features intact, but with the cheap looking android 3D model/texture graphics and none of the extra bells and whistles in Sword of Mana. Only major problem is that there are only two systems to play it on: your smartphone or a PS Vita. Not the best options for gaming or streaming, I know. But it is the more faithful experience. And both have the ring menu that's synonymous with most of the series, which the original never had.

I didn’t know there were those options and I actually do have a PSTV so hopefully adventures is compatible with that! Though it does make me sad they couldn’t just have a version with the more authentic story and the added bells and whistles and such, haha… Thank you so much for the insight!

@@LaviAlraune The rebooted story isn't that bad. In fact, it even allows you to have a girl character option in the GBA version. But either way, Adventures of Mana and Final Fantasy Adventure are the least mana of the Mana franchise. In fact, it kind of clung to the Final Fantasy franchise a bit. The main character looks kinda like the warrior sprite from the original FF, your stats you can adjust are attributes based on classic FF classes, and there were other references too. Adventures of Mana remedies this somewhat visually by giving the characters a makeover of sorts to make them stand on their own design wise. Although, the red mage adventurer that temporarily tags along at a certain point still looks like a red mage. It wasn't until Secret of Mana that the whole Mana look and feel was truly born.

@@patricklatham3897 I can understand it being visually similar and such to FF back then since it could get more eyes on it at first... Gotta start somewhere! But yeah it's nice Mana got its own more defined identity. One of the reasons I stuck to playing Legend was because of the male/female option actually lol so it's nice it isn't the only one to have that option.

@@LaviAlraune Most of the games with a party of 3 let you play as any of them with the push of a button. And with a multitap for the SNES Secret of Mana, it could be a three player experience. Children of Mana was a spinoff title that had four player co-op as well as options for an archer girl or a Niccolo race character with a hammer.
