The Te Deum (from its incipit, Te deum laudamus "Thee, O God, we praise") is a Latin Christian hymn composed in the 4th century. It is one of the core hymns of the Ambrosian hymnal, which spread throughout the Latin Church with the Milanese Rite in the 6th to 8th centuries, and is sometimes known as "the Ambrosian Hymn".
The term Te Deum can also refer to a short religious service, held to bless an event or give thanks, which is based upon the hymn.
It is here performed by The Cistercian Monks of Stift Heiligenkreuz.

I go to resurrection yearly to my local church. If i remember correctly at the end of the mass priest proclaims that He has risen, everyone responds that He has truly risen, silence falls and we proceed with entire church and go around the town singing that He has risen. Altar boys like annoying atheists and ring the altar bells hard. Once we return, for the first in over 40 days instruments are again used. Everyone stands, priest kneels and organist starts playing Te Deum Laudamus and the entire church sings. Magnificent.

Intercessory prayer has been studied and has NO more effect than random chance... I could pray to a rooster and get the same results... the ONLY thing prayer does is allow the one praying to feel like they are somehow contributing/helping... also it acts as mediation or mindfulness techniques... but otherwise... you could be reading a grocery list for the effect it has on the external world...

This song is sang only once a year on the resurrection mass in catholic church. If you got no idea how to waste a night next april try visiting. I attend it yearly because it is so fun. Beliefs, myths and rituals are very cool and nobody has to believe to participate. It is so fun each year. If you never been to a catholic church note that there is no prerequirements to visit, no baptism needed, no invitation, no nothing of that sort. Do things that other people around do (like standing, sitting, kneeling etc. to avoid looking like a jerk) even if you are miserable at mimicking people nobody would mind. You do not have to pray with voice or sing and it is fine too. And bring normal clothing. Normal as: not too bright, not "new" fashion, not revealing, somewhat modest and take off piercings because some people get distracted by these factors and it is not nice distract people who want to pray. Nobody is kicked out no matter the faith or its lack even if detected unless you interrupt the entire mass which is hard to achieve. Have a nice day.

Latin is indeed beautiful, but it's not like it just died out. It evolved into a bunch of different languages like italian, spanish and french. It's also still used by clergy and also quite a lot in science.
