The way I’ve always seen it since Mad Love is that the Joker figured out ways to get into people’s heads and control their thoughts and actions by saying certain words and phrases that trigger a response in his targets. He is a psychological genius that knows how to mess with people mentally. Harley thought she was in control because she had a degree in psychology but she didn’t realize that the Joker was more of an expert on the subject than she was when she first met him and he knew he could use that to his advantage. Harley was manipulated by the Joker and conditioned to think that he cared about her and was in love with her. Harley wanted to reform but the Joker made it hard for her to leave him.

This actually makes me feel really good. 🙂 With the jokers death, not only was Harley finally free of that abusive relationship and the manipulative power he had over her, but she was able to grow up and move on, make a family, and live a long life. And from what this seems to suggest, she did it through honest means and tried to teach her granddaughters the same (although clearly the seed is strong...). Harley is representative of so many women that we either know and watch them get stuck in something like that and be powerless to stop it, or women that we ourselves have been at some point; it's so nice to see she came out of it and got a happily-ever-after!

I can certainly see that in some of his villains (Harley, Ivy, the Ultra Humanite, Grundy, etc), but I don’t think he ever believed the Joker could be even remotely redeemed. If it wasn’t for his overwhelming desire to never stoop to their level (note: I’m not saying that is a bad quality to have, just making an observation), I’m pretty sure he would’ve eventually killed the Joker. Maybe he initially thought he could get him to turn around, but at some point he just realized and accepted that the Joker is an irredeemable, psychopathic monster too willingly insane to ever change for more than a gag

Daniel Blaze in most versions it's that joker twisted Harley's mind. It is also established that joker is holding her back since in Arkham she becomes a gang leader after joker dies and can command respect from the thugs that wanted to rape and kill her. Considering what's she's gone through with joker, she probably figured that joker wasn't going to give her the life she wanted where she got a family. If you read mad love Harley believes that if batman is gone she and joker can have a life and grow old together. Since joker isn't gone and she probably did have the influence of people like poison ivy and catwoman that wanted her to be her own person it might not have been easy but she got over him. Plus we do see in btas that Harley does have the potential to be normal, unlike joker since she nearly got released from Arkham and passed a hearing. Just the circumstances and not following norms for so long made her lose herself. Something like that could've happened so long as joker wasn't there.

They should have added a scene in the movie were The Joker meets Harley when she old and see how she reacts to his return after she clearly would have had a breakdown due to realizing the joker was actually dead after she survived her fall. It seems like they just wanted to add this in as a quick laugh for the final scenes and a service to all the Harley fans....I guess they didn't want to add in any other story elements and just focus on Bruce and Terry's partnership and them dealing with the return of one of Batman's greatest villains and Bruce's ghosts from the past.

I wish we knew what happened to everyone in Batman's Rogues Gallery. Mr. Freeze's head was kept preserved until they tried to make him normal again, which backfired, but he got a good redemption before he died. Bane after spending too many years on Venom uses it as life support, and at his age is pretty much old and withered unlike Bruce. Ra's Al Ghul in a previous conflict with Batman had his body damaged badly he couldn't use the pits to restore himself. So he transferred his mind into Talia and been secretly plotting the day he could take Bruce's body instead. Failed and is gone for good. Joker died in a traumatic event involving Time Drake, but was living in secrecy inside the former Boy Wonder. Harley survived the fall and now leads a normal life. But what of the other villains? Poison Ivy, Two Face, Penguin, Mad Hatter, Scarecrow, Clayface, Riddler, Killer Croc, Baby Doll, and so many others? Are we to assume majority of them died over the years, did their time and were let out on parole or got back to normal life outside crime? It would've been nice to know what became of those guys too

Mr Freeze redeemed himself yet again in an episode where he disappeared in a blazing fire. I think half of his episode, he ends up doing the right thing, and half of those, they left him in a situation that he might of died, but there was no body, so they can bring him back when they want. Two Face they try, but his emotional scars are too deep. Penguin shows possibilities. Poison Ivey redeemed herself in the video games, which BTAS creators were the one who wrote the stories for Arkham.

Bruce was a guy who cared deep down. He always kept trying to get Harley to leave Joker. And don’t forget the time Joker pulled the pin of a grenade that he placed in Harley’s hands knowing that Batman would save Harley and allow him to escape. Bruce saved Harley’s life on several other occasions too. He wouldn’t have done that if he didn’t care.
