I've got a house built in the 1970s that was added on to about 20 years later. It's always interesting when I spot little things in the older part of the house that make me realize "Oh, this must have been updated at around the same time as the addition was built!"

thank you so much, everybody wants to tear out the old and update with new cheap crap. you are so much the voice of wisdom and great style. thank you for what you are doing to add class to our tastes. we just gotta get your message out to the masses

It breaks my heart seeing people destroy historic homes and make them modern and boring.

👍🏻 I’d buy it! 😊 our house was somewhat newer but that’s what I grew up in.

Fascinating analysis. That kind of a sturdy house grabs me more than a new production build.

These old tract homes had more design thought put in them than the new soulless builds.

Such a great walk through and analysis.

The reason for the toilet being higher than the floor is maybe because the original bathroom floor tile was laid on the traditional thick mortar bed? I don’t like the large overhang of the roof on the addition but I think that was the 50s 60s style for some ranch style houses in warmer climate areas, other than my two useless cents great stuff Brent as usual

Buy it.

I would love to have this house. It's important to get the right person to do repairs. That floor patch is an eyesore. It would drive me crazy.

Something like that could potentially be 'fixed' just by covering it, though. My living room floor has a spot with some nasty scratches, but it's covered up by the rug, so who cares?

As for a person living in northern Europe, Sweden. I do not like the roof. I would prefer a clay tile roof. If you run out of ideas, I would love to see a video on how to make windows magical when you need good insulation on the windows as well.

Does Austin, your film guy, have a channel? I’d love to learn video from him for my real estate videos.

Oh to work on houses like this again, rather than McMansions here in my latter years of carpentry.

I love seeing the craftsmanship and details in older homes. I hope that we return to appreciating good design and quality materials/craftsmanship again. The modern homes are such plain and uninspired boxes with no cohesive design theme or style.

Does the living room need work with some combination of wallpaper and paint to break it up? I loved the crown molding, mantle, and flooring, but it seemed like such a waste to have EVERYTHING painted white. I'm also curious what you'll do with the all-wood paneled rooms- I have a tough time finding a good way to use wood paneling. It always feels like I'm inside a cardboard box.

The wood in this house looked like T&G boards instead of the cheap veneer ply or even cheaper printed paperboard. Although it isn't my favorite look, I would leave the stained wood walls alone and use other decorations to break up the cabin look. The cheap plywood paneling is something I'd have no hesitation to remove and replace with drywall.

The interior certainly has charm. The exterior seems plain, even by the standards of the time.

These homes were not meant to be stately or a status symbol, just a charming place to raise a middle class family.

Hmmm, I have a 1940s Colonial Revival and it doesn't look anything like this. CRs have symmetrical front elevations with a central doorway and often a portico with 2 columns. THey typically have 2 floors with a central staircase, shutters, center hall, and side gables.

I'm so tired of the "farmhouse" style light fixtures. They are hideous and cast unattractive shadows all over the room with harsh undiffused light.

This home you are showcasing is a ranch, not a colonial revival. Still good content and upvoting....
@davidparker96768 сағат бұрын
I was wondering why he was calling it a colonial revival. This style of home is prolific where I live in Los Angeles. We have some colonial homes too but the architecture is dramatically different.
@marvinhaines92976 сағат бұрын
No way in hell that' a ranch. it's a Minimal Traditional with some colonial revival details.
@Hemond16 сағат бұрын
@@marvinhaines9297 Much too large, complex, detailed , ornamented, and expensive to be Minimal Traditional. Very little about the house is "minimal" The materials and workmanship are a step above what is found in a low cost house.
@marvinhaines92976 сағат бұрын
@@Hemond1 Minimal Trad, contrary to what many people think, is actually an architectural style from the 40s. Not a description- a style. Look it up.
