It may seem obvious that Inazuma was based off Japan. Beyond aesthetics, this video explains how parts of Inazuma's lore were based off REAL events in Japanese history.
If you liked this video, please share and subscribe for more content like this. I plan on making more videos where I compare video game lore to real world history.

Another thing I'd like to add: In game, Inazuma is surrounded by an eternal storm. As a history buff when I first heard of that I immediately knew it is a reference to how the Mongols could never invade Japan since everytime they tried, a tornado would push them back to the mainland and kill their soldiers.

Here's another element in Inazuma that is seen through Thoma's Hangout event which was based on a famous phenomenon in Japan. In the 1920s, there was an akita dog named Hachiko who would always wait for his owner to come back from work at Shibuya station. Sadly, his owner died while at work and never came back, but Hachiko would always wait at Shibuya for his owner to return until his passing. There were a lot of regulars at the train station who grew attracted to Hachiko and offer him food. This is similar to one of the branching storylines in Thoma's hangout event where we see him trying, but failing to offer food to a ninja dog named Inu Shoushou who sits by a beach and wouldn't move from the spot. But it's been revealed that Inu was actually waiting for his master to come home, unknowingly aware that his master is actually gone.

If you ever revisit this video you might want to make a revision and add the katanagari or commonly known as the sword hunt in japan as the swords were confiscated and used to construct the image of buddha just as how visions were used in the omnipresent god's statue

@@loreexplorerhistoryandgami668 One thing also that would be interesting would be an exploration of symbols used in game and their real-life counterparts. One small example I can think of: the electro symbol looks a lot like a Tomoye

0:38 The shogunate ruled Japan in 1600s to mid 1800s. And the founder's first name was ieyasu not Leyasu😅

Here's one major element Inazuma has which is influenced by Japan, the main element archon Electro, which is from Japan's thunderstorms being so strong, it can strike down ships. One time, this army from another region had planned to invade Japan and take it over, and they set sail to the land they're going to invade, only for them to be stopped by thunderstorms. They tried this multiple times, but each time, they were stopped by the storms. They gave up their invasion plan because they ended up believing that Japan is protected by the gods. This is even used as the main plot setting for the Tomb Raider game from 2013, which is set on an island that is a part of Japan, which the main characters are trapped on this Japanese island and they cannot leave because the storms prevent them from ever leaving, they come out of nowhere and violently strikes down anything that comes to the island. The storms that stops them from leaving the island are revealed to be the work of Yamato, the Sun Queen. Inazuma's story has this same idea where the thunderstorms that surrounds and protects the region are actually the work of Raiden Shogun, this is how she closed off the entire region from the rest of Tevyat, to prevent anyone from entering or leaving Inazuma, as well as the very strict commissions and clans she orders.

Impressive work. I admire the thorough amount of details and explanations put into this video, and I find it appreciable how you added a real-life based movie, including artworks as to depict more on your reasoning. As a Lore Enthusiast myself, I enjoy learning new things day by day, and this was quite an amusing watch. Keep up the good work, you’re doing a good job! 💜

Great work Rom it was really informative and there really is a lot of parallels between Japanese history and what happened in Inazuma. I did learn quite a few new things. Allthough I do have to point out one thing, it is currently unkown how much influence the Archons have over the ditribution of visions as it is only the belief of people that visions are granted by Archons. Ei herself has stated that it is not by her will, but people's desire and something else through which visions are granted or denied.

Thanks Crash! I did here a lot of things about the Vision granting system and I could've worded that one better. In a way, you could still say that Visions are a parallel to a religion, since faiths such as Judaism, Christianity, and Islam state that it is not their God that makes them believe, rather it is the faith of the individual. Just like how Visions are not granted solely by the Archons, but instead the will of the individual has a larger say in it. Thanks for the correction and I have a ton of other vids planned too! My next one is about comparing Mondstadt to Germany and Bavaria. I'll send it to you for feedback since I know ur a German and you know the culture better than anyone else.

Awesome job! I love how comprehensive this video is, and how many attributes you connected between Japanese history and Inazuma. I can agree with many of these analogies, furthermore realizing how similar these two places are, and subsequently proving that Inazuma may have been somewhat based off of Japanese history. Thank you for the explanations, it was interesting to me to learn a bit more about the origins and interrelations of Inazuma and Japan! :))

Another point I want to mention: In the beginning, travelers couldn't enter Inazuma directly due to the storm. This is a reference to Japan during the 1600s. It was a country that mainly isolated themselves from other countries in order to push away Western influence and preserve their traditions. As the story progresses, and after the traveler defeats the shogunate, Inazuma becomes a nation that's open to other nations for trade as well as tourism. This is a striking resemblance to what happened to Japan post WWII when the US occupied Japan and introduced the country to new innovations that would eventually lead to the economical and industrial growth for Japan. Although Hoyoverse didn't emphasize on the innovational change for Inazuma after its archon quest, it did become a nation that was more approachable to the other nations. It's been 2 years since I done the Inazuma archon quest, so I apologize if I made any mistakes in the lore hahaha

Its ieyasu. Also even now, Japan is a nation that refuse change. Technologies grow fast but social and culturally they remains the same. Male chauvinism, xenophobia and feudalism are still strong in the nation. "The nail that sticks out needs to be hammered down"
