Old Idaho State Penitentiary / A stark reminder of our past.

The Old Idaho Penitentiary State Historic Site was a functional prison from 1872 to 1973 in the western United States, east of Boise, Idaho. The first building, also known as the Territorial Prison, was constructed in the Territory of Idaho in 1870; the territory was seven years old when the prison was built, a full two decades before statehood.
From its beginnings as a single cell house, the penitentiary grew to a complex of several distinctive buildings surrounded by a 17-foot-high (5.2 m) sandstone wall. The stone was quarried from the nearby ridges by the resident convicts, who also assisted in later constructions.

I was just a little kid when my family visited the old south Carolina state prison ,CCI, before it got demolished .It had a tour set up for sometime before it's destruction . I remember death row pretty vividly ,these cells were more decorated than the others ... one cell had a pink toilet. The gas chamber was absolutely terrifying and really small. I remembered thinking that the electric chair looked just like the movies ....but now I have different feelings. The youngest person ever executed in the US was executed here, in this seat. George Stinney. age 14. in 1944. He was so short they had to put a stack of bibles for him to sit on so the cap would fit on his head . A small black kid accused of raping a white woman, from a town so small it still doesn't have a gas station today ( Alcolu ) After they tore down the prison they built luxury condos on the location .it's right in heart of Columbia with a view of the river. If any place would be haunted ,it's here .
