Taylor, we didn’t have any gloves either back in the 70s. We just reached down in there. I got them turned around and pull them out.. The barn you worked in looks a lot like the one I used to work in a pipeline. I kinda missed those days and then again I don’t.😊 you do a great job. Keep it up.

When I was a child, I can recall helping plant the end rows with sweet corn, using a similar-aged planter. It took some teamwork, as the plates were sized for field corn, and that sweet corn seed was far smaller and so had to be hand fed to make sure only one seed went in every spot of the seed feeder plate. Sure made it super easy to plant and cultivate sweet corn, and lots of it too!

What a video! Hope KZbin doesn't find calf birthing offense!! They tend to hate reality and truth! Great seeing the planter go back together. Cool seeing the plates going 'round n 'round! There are grease zirts under the hoppers that need attention. Some people call them zirts, some say zirks, I grew up calling them "fittings", lol!! Really great video!!

Taylor, you bring back an old memory. My Dad had a 56 planter back in the late 60's; great planter. He used starter fertilizer too, which was a lot of work but gave the corn a nice start. The calving was nice to watch. I have helped/pulled many calves to help mama along. Thanks for sharing. Rog/Iowa

A tip if you come in contact with fiberglass do not touch the area until you rince the area with cool water, then use warm water and soap. scratching will just push the glass deeper into the skin.

To keep from getting fiberglass on you from the boxes, spray them with clear spray paint works great on ladders too.

I am pretty certain we used that plater in the 70s to plant our corn. It was a fine planter in its day. My dad believed in planting corn in hills at one time and not in singulation that is the only way it is done today. There were so many things' farmers did wrong in those days that are no longer practiced today. The land is rented out now and the equipment used is so different and bigger now.

It's coming out the right way, because the hoofs are pointed up. Now, you need the other hoof to pop out. Then the nose. 👍

After planting corn, you can apply fiberglass resin to the fertilizer and seed bins to refresh them. Sanding them with heavy grit before. Thanks, Taylor!

Sometimes one has to stop and reflect on the fact that that planter came from a family of planters that was state-of-the-art in its time. But even if the technology of farming has changed, the essence of farming has not. And that's something to appreciate every day.

It is so wierd to watch the miracle of life happen and all of the other cows are acting as if nothing has happened. Life doesn't care, it just goes on. It shows us how much we like to assign special meaning to things that life just "does". A very cool process.

A live birth with everyone doing fine is always a great thing. The ears on that bull calf look huge. Is that the camera angle or is it part rabbit? The planter should serve you well. New equipment is exciting, but fixing up old stuff and getting it working is both exciting and rewarding. Great job.
