Hemanto Mukhopadhyay's contribution in Indian music industry(Hindi and Bengali) is unmatchable. There is a bengali song Ei Raat Tomar Amar ( bengali version of Ye Nayan Dare Dare; though the tune of Tum Pukaar Lo is also identical) from the movie Deep Jeley Jai. That song is pure magic( he composed the music and also lend his divine voice). In Bengali film industry, Hemanto was to Uttam Kumar is what Md.Rafi was to Shammi Kapoor! I was introduced to this magical voice at the age of four by my father. Hemanta Mukherjee's Bengali song RUNNER and GAAER BODHU and I fell in love with his voice. As I learnt about him in my later life, I started respecting him like God embodied. He was a great singer with magical voice no doubt, he was a man with great heart too. Lataji remembered him as a saint who is chanting hymns in baritone voice from the temple of God. And best was this evaluation. He can be heard and felt only. Time will never be able to silence his voice for thousands of years to come.
