I was bored too. I'm stuck at home here on my day off from the railroad and I have to wait out the contractors placing aluminum siding on my home. So, I was checking KZbin out and ran across this interesting movie on Kennecott Copper as I really like heavy industry such as steel mills, oil refineries, etc.,. Thanks for sharing!

As a pyrometallurgical engineer, this is very insightful. #Copper#Smelting#Metallurgy

The clip of the old Kennecott Theater at 1:57 along with the music brings back a lot of memories as a child when I watched decent shows on television. Thanks for sharing and including that clip.

Don't feel bad fellas- someday when the power grid goes down, you're going to have to go back to that medieval way of smelting- and it will be working with a fire and the molten metal again directly

teceyS3 you do realize kennecott makes their own power?
@teceyS36 жыл бұрын
no but i was referring to a time in the future when this country will go through major destructions/changes and everyone has to go back to ancient/primitive ways of doing things- it was just a thought.....

@@gmaxsc they have to make their own power.. I can only imagine how much electricity those flash smelters would require to run.. on top of that massive conveyor belt.. gotta be what, 30 miles long, carrying thousands of tons of ore at a time

I bet all these guys in this video are beyond comfortable in their retirements.. nice huge pensions, on top of their 6 figure incomes thru their careers.. the smoke stack at their smelter is bonkers how big it is

I used to work there, almost 10 years. These guys got good wages and pensions but unfortunately their health undoubtedly suffered due to the poor air quality and toxic heavy metals. The current smelter is very clean compared tp these old reverbs!

@@gmaxsc oh I could only imagine it’s like those poor people thay live in daybreak.. I’m sure the cancer rate in that area is going to be astronomical in the next few decades.. how long is that conveyor belt from the mine to the smelter, and how much ore can it move?

For any Utah natives, could you imagine the inversions these days if those two stacks were going mid winter?? Think if those 2, the two old Murray power stacks and the metal smelter in Midvale were all going.. that would be so harsh to breathe

My great uncle was one of the second wave of Greek Miners and he was also in a group shot taken outside of the mine for some type of event, possibly a mass wedding.
