Welcome to Old Laxey on the Isle of Man
This is one of my favourite places on the island, with its stunning beach, harbour and village.
Laxey is on the East Coast of the island and is well known by visitors for the waterwheel up on the hill side and it’s history of mining, but Old Laxey is less known and is very much used by the locals.
We start today at Old Laxey beach, walking through the harbour into the lower part of the town.
We then cross over the River Laxey (Old Norse Laxa meaning Salmon River) where the village gets its name from. This river runs into the sea via a walled channel next to the harbour entrance.
After crossing the river, we follow the pathway up onto the cliffs (cairn) and it’s stunning views over the village.
Ending our walk today, down the steps to the wall forming the green beacon side of the harbour.
Today is a beautiful sunny day with amazing clear views out across the Irish Sea and up towards Snaefell Mountain.

The flowing river, sea wall, harbour, boats and great views all the way along. The low tide exposing the sands, attracting the sea birds 🦅 . All very picturesque in the sunshine. We loved going on this beautiful stroll with you in Old Laxey, CMW. Looks like a lovely peaceful little village. We loved seeing the sea caves from the pier/bridge and the beautiful quaint homes, restaurants, and other buildings in town. Lovely river but a steep pathway up! The stairs we could do but we don't do ropes. Good for you! But wait, there's a road up to the top? We may miss some views but think we may just do that! Just stunning views from the path up top. Enjoyed seeing the lighthouse and your entire beautiful walk! Thanks so much for bringing us along.

You can just about see the house where I used to live from Laxey beach. My local pubs were the Mines Tavern and the Bridge. Lovely area to walk.
