I randomly came across your video watching "fail" funnies... THIS IS MY HUSBAND (the troll comments are HILARIOUS - keyboard quarterbacks. Over 30 years as a truck driver, equipment operator, and general engineering contractor came in handy!!). We tell this story to this day, about the trailer owner ripping off the AC shroud/awning off and then off the corner... You rock for catching this on video! WOW. A big thank you to the winch owner and the older gentleman who was also a life long truck driver (both from California like us I believe). Team work!

Yeah it looked like the front air conditioner on the roof was missing .you don't just take a chance and drive thru a tunnel .you make sure the height at the highest point of the camper is atleast 3 inches lower than the lowest part if the tunnel. What a goober head

Glad to see it ended well. Most RVers, myself included, have fond themselves in a tight spot at sometime or other. Missing a warning sign or placing too much faith in their GPS has caused headaches for many travelers. Hats off to all those who helped this couple and for the patience the other people showed.

Actually the Ram truck did not actually accomplish anything. His winch was too weak to even move the suspension on that trailer. The only thing moving that trailer was the Chevy it was hitched too, and the Ford that pulled it off the corner with a chain.
@rone7104

Mark Mitchell The fault is with the idiot barking orders, winches are slow and will not keep up in that situation, they were not able to keep tension on the line.. They were actually very lucky, the winch could have done a lot of damage and if they had attached a tow strap to the trailer from the Ram they may have torn the trailer apart. RV trailers have very weak frames and everything above the frame isn't much stronger than paper. The guy barking orders was an idiot.

I don't think hauling a huge monstrosity like that is fun. I used to have a 26 foot 5th wheel but I kept it permanently parked by the Chama River in Colorado. Now I have a VERY small fiberglass RV and I love it! Bigger is not better! You don't need all of that space when you're on the road. Keep your footprint small folks!

8:50 The guy that "knew what he was doing" directed him right into the barrier and tore up his 5th wheel more; just because a person acts like they know what they're doing doesn't mean they do. Also there is alot of piss poor spotters that are just confusing the situation and not warning him he's about to gouge the barrier. In a situation like that it's better to take your time to plan and discuss a solution rather than just trusting the loudest voice to chose the right line. Make sure he knows what he's doing and don't trust his "credentials".
@eddiemcars

@@jeffw7320 Not at all. Not an excuse. This guy gets NO benefit of the doubt. First of all, he should have been going REALLY SLOWLY there. And if there were an opposing car coming, he should have totally stopped and waited until he could swing over into the other lane, to safely negotiate the curve. Like black knight says above, the pickup driver absolutely did not judge his (safe) route around the curve. That said, the pickup driver already demonstrated his poor judgment and incompetence by passing through a tunnel that ripped off 2 rooftop A/C units and damaged his awning, after disregarding the CLEAR traffic restriction warning signs. NOTE: This comment is from a retired truck driver, so I'm NOT UNFAMILIAR with viewing the silliness (and worse) of drivers who have NO BUSINESS driving the vehicles they drive......

Apparently the driver never made a wide turn around that bend. Granted he didn't heed the warning signs but even at that if he had stayed far enough to the left to make a wide turn it looks to me that he would have at least had a chance. From the position of that rig it looks like he tried to do it in the right lane which isn't going to happen on a bend that tight.If there are more bends ahead like that hopefully the driver will have the insight to navigate them properly.

Of course he's going to continue down the road, I don't think he's going to back that thing all the way out.

unfortunate this older gentleman took this road. Iam certain he has learned a valuable lesson,along with all of the on lookers ..hehe including the yappy one whom took this video. Ive drove large trucks and trailers and think that the road is okay to continue , the driver seems to have figured out how to take the corners, or at least if no on coming traffic is approaching.. good lesson for all that was their and views this video

Being a truck driver, it's obvious to me that he had no business trying to drive a rig that large. If he had known what he was doing in the first place, he would have known he couldn't do what he tried to do. It's crazy that anybody with a drivers liscense can just hook up and try to pull a trailer that long with out any training.

Kudos to the man who took control of this mishap and directed the whole bunch of guys who stopped to help the poor old man. He's a great person, along with all the other helpers. Anyone can make a mistake, and I'm talking to all of you haters out there who made fun of this poor old man's mistake. Karma will bite you in the butt big time for being so ignorant and cruel.,,,

Looks like the dummy tried to keep his truck on his own side of the centerline around that curve, which was NOT going to work.

Bike Cycle As any experienced driver would tell you, you wait for your opportunity in between oncoming vehicles, then swing wide. Or,....stay off of such roads. You can see what happens if you don't.

That's exactly what I was thinking. That corner wasn't even that sharp. But then again I can parallel park a 53' trailer where most people can't park their Prius. Maybe that's not a fair comparison since 99.9% of Prius drivers should have not been allowed to get their license in the first place.

This is Iron Mt. Road in the Black Hills of South Dakota. I was a tour guide out here and I once lead a bus on this road. Unfortunately, although it was possible, we did scrape the top of the bus a little bit in one of the tunnels. By the way, it is a beautiful road. I asked my wife to marry me on top of this mountain!

I have lived and worked in the Black Hills for years and this is commonplace in the summer. Nothing scares me more than a little old man with 9 hours experience hauling a large trailer rushing up behind your car in a 15 mph zone, but he is doing 45 mph . On highway 385 entering Deadwood Gulch is a VERY long steep grade with huge signs at the top warning large vehicles to start down the grade at 10 mph and everyday these fools will just keep going 65 mph. They don't know what the runaway pits are for and just keep going faster and faster.

I drive a semi tow in concord,ca and this same guy pulled his rv up on a steel pole taking a right turn,had two streets blocked cops every place, i had to do a recovery on it he tore the right side axles and leaf springs out, the entry steps,to the rear slide out, i got it off the pole and had to load it on a low boy trailer and put it in our impound,as it turns out insurance totaled it out and i think he got a smaller one.
