You hear so many horror stories about what old folks go through in some nursing homes. It's nice to hear a story about a worker who went above and beyond to show some real compassion for her residents. Bravo to her.

@@ontnurse2 I'm an activity co-ordinator and work in a nursing home, and we do things like this ALL THE TIME, but news don't sell by telling the best things, they sell by spreading the worst. Care staff go above and beyond but you never hear of it. You wouldn't believe what we do for our residents

Yea it reminds me of this family at an r.v. park walking their chihuahua who they said was 20 years old. Not kidding, he was blind in one eye, deaf in the other ear, had his tongue hanging out, and had 3 legs. They had to pick him up because he couldnt walk the whole way.

I agree. It's crazy the way that music affects our lives it affects every area of our life physical mental spiritual it is in my opinion, life if we didn't have music I think this world would be.. I don't know I don't think we could survive without music to be honest with you I think that there would come a time and away and a place for music to be born let's say for whatever reason it was erased from existence for whatever reason. It would be born again into this world if this world was meant for life, which it is. This is absolutely a very inspiring story a very beautiful story of people that we think are just completely gone but there's still somebody in there! Somebody alive, they just need something to bring that out of them and I strongly believe in music to be that life force for many of us it is definitely and has been for me and has saved my life on countless occasions before my children were born.

My nan died about two years ago after a stroke, and I remember walking into her hospital room that day and seeing her screaming for her husband (who'd died almost twenty years earlier). She was confused and terrified and it was absolutely heartbreaking, but I started playing her favourite music on my phone ("Hello Dolly" by Louis Armstrong), and almost immediately she stopped screaming, calmed down and began to dance and sing along to the music. It's honestly incredible what music can do to someone's mind and I'm forever thankful that in that moment, we were able to talk to her quietly because it brought back so much of what she'd lost.

It brings back memories of them being with their kids or dancing with their spouse or a place they’ve visited. Music has so much power. Oliver Sacks was an incredible and ultimately curious man. He died in 2015 or 2016, and was probably already ill with cancer at this point. He wrote fine books as Ian mentioned. He also had prosopagnosia or Face Blindness and could not recognize his own face in a mirror. Probably why he became a neuro-scientist.

I strongly dislike the way this video is presented, as if they did something magical to restore a part of his personality that was lost. People react positively to to the type of music they like. To anyone who has had an older family member to care for, this is "by the book" what you do to keep them happy and entertained. This guy was probably just really bored from sitting in a chair and doing absolutely nothing because his family was too busy with their own lives.

We watched this clip in Adolescent and Adult development. My professor is very adamant on teaching us about the development of older adults, and how they adapt to life once they grow old. He showed us this in correlation with the practice of Music Therapy in older adults, specifically those with demetia (neuro-cognitive disorders), and how it can drastically change their cognitive processes for the better. It's such a wonderful thing

It's not just music that will bring people back to themselves. It's about making a personal connection for them. If you have a person who enjoyed cooking, then the smells & sounds of cooking might bring them out. It just depends upon the person.

That is so true more than most will ever know. I hate to say it but bad things happen to good people. That is my experience...my personal experience. I’ve done everything the right way, worked hard, spent about 12 years at the university in engineering, been good to people, kind to everyone I meet, taken care of my family, given to others, and all I get is problems. Never ending problems. Poisoned by mold at my employer who happens to be the US Government, defense related, and it was swept under the rug and I’ve spent tens of thousands on medical care for what they did to me (they knew I was getting sick in the building i worked in), and they treat me like dirt, and constantly harass me because I cannot work at the level I did before I got sick. I still work, but I cannot multitask. If I went through the list of unfortunate things that have happened to me in just the past year you’d think I was making it up. So yeah, I’ve never harmed anyone and I’ve always made my own way, and all I get is, frankly, shit. Suffering and anguish. The worst part is when you’re fairly young and sick and nobody believes or understands it. This happened to me at age 35 about 13 years ago. It’s been misery ever since with multiple surgeries and constant pain. I still work. I have a family to take care of. The world is absolutely cruel. I know so many evil people who never have a problem, never a pain, and never face punishment for the evil doing and law breaking. They just skate through life.
@aztec09966 жыл бұрын
J. Patterson hey man, I know I don't know your personal life like that but I know that the most wonderful things are known and experienced by good people. I know that because of your hard work, someone else who looks up to you or looks to you for guidance will hold everything you've ever done for them and for the sake of goodness in the deepest of their hearts and your legacy will live on forever through their lives and the integrity you exemplified. People who live by evil and wrongdoings never truly grasp the depths of love and gratitude, that's why they hurt other people and cause other people problems because they don't understand that level of integrity and trust and security. The only people who would live up to the legacy of evil and wrongdoing are people who will throw their soul away for their ego. Egos die with us, but your goodness will stretch for ages through the hearts of your children and their children, too. Keep your head up :)
@K.C.C.L6 жыл бұрын
Life is like a video game giving you challenges to overcome,maybe your challenge is that you need to stop being so nice,and good to people. Plus you need to sue your employer,sounds like a nice lawsuit if you get a lawyer. Sometimes bad things happen because we don't make the move our intuition told us we should have made. Good luck with everything though.

Respectfully, this man has it better than most. He's cared after in a decent-looking home, the staff seems to care, his daughter visits him, and now he can listen to music every day. Unless you've spent time as a senior caregiver, you don't know how bad it can be.
