Kudos to these youngsters for keeping up the Old Man Tradition of Goa. This tradition still burns very strong in Christian dominated areas of Goa and dates back to many generations.
On 31st December every year Christian youngsters in Goa make an effigy of an Old Man, prop it up at prominent spots and ask for small donations from the public. The old men effigies come in all sizes, shapes and production quality. Some of the effigies are artistically designed and are a real treat to watch. The donations collected are then used to throw a party in the neighbourhood on New Years day. The effigy of the old Man is burned at midnight to mark the ringing out of the old year and the welcoming in of the new year.
