My Granny lived at 44 North Park street. Her part of the tenement was knocked down about 1974 & she & her neighbours were moved down to Pollockshaws. I can still remember going down the road in the morning to get milk & rolls. Special treat to go to Jaconelli's for ice cream. There was a wee shop at the bottom of NP street where I bought some matchbox cars. Distant memories now, we had little but were always looked after. Thanks for sharing this.

@@wulliechristie5769 aye I wouldn't recognise it now. I had an Aunt & Uncle who lived at the Butney. He worked at the gas works. I might be wrong but seem to remember coming off the Maryhill road & the road curved round down to where their house was opp the gas works. I'd only have been about 4.

Remember it well. The owner was an ex cop. He was a Chief Inspector at the station in Camperdown St across the road from the brewery in Garscube Rd in the 1960s/early70s. I used to go in the shop for a coffee around 1980. Told a few stories about sending across for a carry out. Him and his wife lived above the shops at Anniesland Cross.

My pal Ronnie Quinn lived right on Queens Cross on the Maryhill road, his dad Harry was a lamplighter. I vividly remember sitting in his wee hoose and watching David Bowies iconic appearance on Top of the Pops singing Starman back in the Seventies. Thanks for the evocative photos Mr Christie.

My first home when I was married was just off Maryhill Road in Dalmally Street. What a thriving area it was then, mid sixties, full of butchers, bakers and all sorts of other businesses. We had a nice little two roomed flat and we lived off one wage with rent, electricity, phone and wee holidays. These days the young can’t afford to rent a one room flat.

Bittersweet, Wullie, seeing the weans. Thank you for the ever-remembered history, although I spent my early years in Springburn (same nostalgia/disturbing in many ways upon our young lives; when we were wee, we did not know any better). Bye for now. Rab 👋 🌠

Very nicely edited, well done. The view back up the hill to Queen's Cross was really interesting to see what had stood there previously.

@@wulliechristie5769 I agree looking at these pictures, Back then it looked lovely yes a lot of poverty but beautiful solid buildings, Tenements as well as all the local shops, Seemed like there was a sense of community. My Mum grew up in Rowland street ( I think that’s the right spelling) Don’t think it exists now.
