I was born and raised in the Normandy area. It was a great place to live in the 1940's and 1950's. It has completely turned around. After I got married in 1966, my wife and I left St. Louis, never to return. But my heart and spirit will always be in St. Louis.

St. Louis is a city with a character like no other city. It would be hard to find a city that has so much history embedded in its foundation. At one time, St. Louis was one of the grandest cities in America. It was the central hub to all distribution throughout the Midwest, and it was coined as "the gateway to the west," because it was one of the main points which settlers used, to start their journeys when traveling West. It's sad to see that the cancer and poverty has put the majority of the North Side in a spiral of neighborhood decline! Because along with this decline, there are some of the best people in the world (that I know), who are dedicated to their neighborhood, but sadly, have to live in cesspool of crime and poverty. That said, it's the struggles in this life that we have to endure, which gives us strength to stand when the tides of life become heavy! And, because of being born into the struggles of living in the inner-city of "The Lou," there are some STRONG people that come out of St. Louis, and I'm proud to be one of them! I💘 ST. LOUIS

Nice. My Mom grew up here in the 1940's. Before she passed away she was glad to see people reviving the area. Flush out the crime element!

St. Louis should invite architects, engineers and others to go to school there, free of charge on the condition they will be involved in rebuilding, rehabbing. Youngsters that would not otherwise have an opportunity. Ought to.

They did a nice job with 14 street mall, but the surrounding areas are still unsafe. It's going to take a long long time to make that area safe to live in.

STL is an interesting place. The restoration is either glacial or ineffective. Still, I love STL!

Everything related to restoration of an early-century home is super-expensive. Contractors tend to gut them, leaving only the brick shell and rebuilding the inside floors and all. And, when you are done, your kids can't play outside and the schools are a dumpster fire.

I think that is great. I am fixing up a place farther west in the city and i welcome all efforts like this. It takes work, but to all of the negative people making comments on here I say be positive or go and complain about politics or something...

Its a real shame that they voted no to the redevelopment plan! Yeah theirs nice Homes, but I'm more than sure that the People that have lived there for Decades not all these "Rehabbers" would want everything that was promised including a more than needed Hospital!
@825843 жыл бұрын
I would argue those "Rehabbers" moved there despite lacking what you wish had happened. Preservation isn't going to happen through that plan. Rehabbers at least try to keep it historic.

I'm number two reason. It looks fake, the New Town. You can't replace what you let go. These types of clips are so depressing because you have to PC, in other words lie and pretend. I am furious that I cannot go back to my old neighborhood. And sprawl is still white flight no matter how you term it.
@jclax0112 жыл бұрын
funny those statements about crime coming from a police officer. maybe if there were a police pressence there maybe things would be different. Heres an idea, maybe the police could actually drive down some of the streets every once in a while. I am not talking about a couple of times a day, how about a couple of times a year. I can count the times on one hand that I have seen a cop just come down the street.

Then they consider the area is being profiled. Some folks in the bad neighborhood want more police presence but their are many more who are up to illicit behaviors that don’t want more police. Which would you say is louder?
