Since this is your favorite class maybe you can help me out here because I am trying to create an Oracle for an upcoming game. The curse seems to be incredibly restrictive since there is so much emphasis on having domain and Oracle revelation spells. What is the point of having a 2 or even a 3 focus pool if you can't use it. Ie at lower levels if you use an Oracle spell earlier in the day or your at minor curse for whatever reason you can only cast one focus spell and no not end up overwhelmed. At higher levels if you're in minor you can only cast 2. This seems massively restrictive Since so many feats give you a focus point and an extra focus spell. Especially since you can't even get to major until a high enough level most players never reach
@epee11c
@epee11c 2 жыл бұрын
@@ketrava0425 You can use them. Casting normal spells doesn't progress your curse, only casting revalation spells (focus spells with the revalation tag) progresses the curse. You can go up to a moderate curse at 1st level, and refocusing drops you back down to minor. At 11th level. you gain a focus point at the same time as you gain access to your major curse. Hopefully that helps!

Correction on Moonlight Bridge: The enemies automatically fall straight through, they cannot walk on the bridge AT ALL. Given the fact you can angle it up and the bridge doesn't have to connect to anything, its basically a full-party flight spell. There's a reason I say Cosmos is the best Mystery.

Some additions to the great video. Ancestors: Ancestral Form lets you fly, including upwards (and it's not difficult terrain for you), plus the exploration and stealth options of being invisible and resistant to physical damage. Battle: Having fast healing means that every time you are dying at the beggining of a turn, you automatically lose the dying condition and wake up again with some hit points, and you have your turn. Bones: Negative healing means that you are inmmune to negative damage. Which means that you can blast some negative damage spells (like sudden blight) with you in the area without a problem. Also, the intereraction between upgrading a major curse (wounded 1) to the Extreme Curse (doomed 2), is extremely dangerous since you can be permanently dead in one hit. I don't know if that was intended or not. Cosmos: Enfeebled also affects encumbrance, so be careful with what you carry. 2. As a GM, I would not include Trip as forced movement (because it is against Reflex), but I will count the trip damage as falling damage. And the most imporant part of this: lnterstellar Void starts with a Fortitude Save, not a basic one. AFTER the target is already affected you can sustain the spell and they get a Basic Fortitude Save. If they critically succeed the first save they are not affected, but that is the only way they can avoid that spell.
@Nonat1s
@Nonat1s 4 жыл бұрын
Some very solid points made here! Regarding Interstellar Void, the way it's written looks like the "Saving Throw: Fortitude" is referring to the basic save itself. With the way that the spell is worded, they get a Basic Save right when you cast it and every following turn when you sustain it. I take this to mean that, even if they crit succeed their initial save, you can keep the void around them, forcing saves on all following turns. The void itself doesn't disappear regardless of the initial save as it's more like a physical effect you sustain (similar to something like animated assault).
@nerezza5943

Want to note that it's understandable that the you weren't enthusiastic about the negative healing bonus for bones considering they don't even mention it gives negative immunity too. Probably just an oversight, wish they would've just snuck a little box detailing that trait's effects instead of summing it up and only listing its two downsides and only ONE of the upsides.

The reason I bring this up, is that I have a PFS character planned for after the AP is done: A Kobold Ancestors Oracle using the 'Touched by Dahak' background. My thought is that, rather than being haunted by his ancestors, the kobold is haunted by the lingering essence of Dahak's character. Can't wait to play him! :D

Currently playing through the fall of plaguestone as an Orc battle oracle and let me tell you... its the most inefficient way to play a barbarian without being a barbarian! And its fun so far. I would say the moderate curse is not as punishing as it seems, since more than likely you are making 2 strikes per turn to get rid of the debuff. Definitely could see this option dropping off pretty quickly in the mid levels, since all other martial characters are just hitting more easily than you would, but for low levels its nice!

Around 8:50 you mention playing a fighter and being able to get the moderate curse with the Oracle Dedication/Archetype. I read through the Oracle archetype and I'm fairly certain you cannot progress your curse beyond minor with the archetype. With how busted some of the curses are if you combine them with other classes, I honestly prefer that they did not let other classes access the full curses. At least it is impossible for a multiclass oracle to be overwhelmed. The Oracle has some nice feats, cast with charisma, and has great focus spells. Maybe later they get more sweet things. I'll explain it when I go over class features, but all curses have the same "Extreme" effect. You unlock it at level 17. "When affected by your extreme curse, you become doomed 2 (or increase your doomed condition by 2 if you were already doomed). Once every 10 minutes, when you fail an attack roll, skill or Perception check, or saving throw, you can reroll it and use the second result. The reroll has the fortune trait and doesn't require you to spend an action, meaning you can use the reroll even if you can't act. These effects are in addition to all the effects of your major curse, and they can't be removed by any means until you Refocus to reduce your curse to its minor effect"

I've an Oracle question, if you take the Oracle dedication one of the feats you can take is called "First Revelation" which outlines how the curse progresses when using revelation spells BUT what if you only take Basic Mysteries (Domain Acumen - Initial domain spell which you cast as a revelation spell with the cursebound trait) THEN you gain focus points from anywhere else, use those focus points on Initial domain spell twice... what happens? No curse at all until "First Revelation"? Moderate effect from Curse?
@Nonat1s
@Nonat1s 4 жыл бұрын
Looking into this question, I've learned some REALLY unfortunate facts about the Oracle Dedication. You CANNOT progress beyond minor curse effects with the dedication. If you take Domain Acumen, yes it will be cursebound and activate your curse, but no matter what level you are, if you try to extend your curse beyond minor, you become permanently flat-footed until you refocus. You cannot achieve moderate or higher. "Use the minor curse from your mystery, but when you progress it again, instead of your mystery’s moderate curse effect, you become flat-footed in addition to the effects of the minor curse." Seems like the main draw of the Oracle Dedication is "Mysterious Breadth" which grants you some extra spell slots.
@brentoncarmichael2748
@brentoncarmichael2748 4 жыл бұрын
@@Nonat1s Right, you're quoting from "First Revelation" (FR) - I'm saying what if you DON'T take it, what's happening with the curse at that point? is there no progression at all due to "You gain the mild, constant effects of the mystery's curse described in its first paragraph, BUT NOT OTHER EFFECTS THE MYSTERY USUALLY GRANTS" sorry, caps because I can't bold that part.
@Nonat1s
@Nonat1s 4 жыл бұрын
@@brentoncarmichael2748 Ohh, now I see what you're saying. Hmm, that's super vaguely worded. My final interpretation is that, yes, you can cast the spell obtained from Domain Acumen. It will have the "Cursebound" trait, but it does not progress your curse at all. The only way you can progress your curse is to take "First Revelation". Once you've taken that feat, any "Cursebound" focus spell will progress your curse. It's not perfect, and I believe this will hopefully be errated to make more sense in the future.

I recently posted about this on reddit: www.reddit.com/r/Pathfinder2e/comments/jbyrp9/oracle_multiclass_dedication_and_cursebound/ The dedication feat gives you mild effects, but not any other effects from the curse. To cast a cursebound spell you have to have a curse, it's in the trait; but the dediction itself states that other than the mild flavor, you don't get other effects. Right now, it seems that you must take First Revelation if you want to cast any cursebound spells. I hope there is an errata.

I'm confused by this class. You get more focus points early on and can recover 2 instead of 1 when you refocus, but you are limited on how many you can use because you'll become overwhelmed and unable to cast focus spells. If this is correct, then the extra focus points and recovery are meaningless unless you take a dedication that also gives a non-revelation focus spell to use. Am I wrong?

Personally I hate how the 2e Oracle is designed. It's not any mechanical flaw, it's just that coming from the 1e Oracle, this one feels so railroaded. With the 1e -> 2e Cleric you can pick any domain while still getting the Caster/Martial option (because I understand you shouldn't be a god at both like 1e Cleric). However, 2e Oracle doesn't get that choice whereas they previously did. I also don't like how every Mystery has a specific curse, but I suppose that's something that could be changed with alternate class options in the future. The whole way curses are handled through is amazing, and I think if my two other issues were fixed in the future then Oracle would go back to being my favorite class again.

The whole drawback that you can’t mitigate in any way, bugs the munchkin part of my brain. One combo I found interesting though was combining Dragon Barbarian with Flame Oracle. I initially thought of the idea because I thought the temp hp could help soak up the damage and then as I was looking into it I realized that fire rage damage combo’d well with incendiary aura. As for ancestries there is of course dragonborn, or perhaps elemental heart dwarf, or if you really want to go all in with the pyromania there is torch goblin.
