As a young boy growing up in 90s India, I was curious about Pakistan. Thanks to my cricketing heroes from there : Imran, Wasim, Waqar. I held an insatiable curiosity for Pakistan - after all how different could they be from us? And yet they sounded different and looked different. How would it be to step in to their land for a moment? Breathe the air there, drink the water there, shake hands with a Pakistani friend. I’d say the young boy in me found Pakistan more polished. Maybe the suaveness of media personalities and the politeness of Urdu caused that belief? Now I am 40. I am not a citizen of India anymore. Maybe with a foreign neutral passport that I hold I can travel freely to Pakistan. But the adult in me doesn’t see Pakistan the same way! I feel the same decay and decadence that exists elsewhere, including India, may have rotten Pakistan too and hollowed it. Or is it that things are still same in Pakistan and it’s just the adult in my that sees differently? Maybe one day I will visit to find the truth.

I'm a Pakistani, however I haven't visited Pakistan for a while now. But I can confirm that Pakistan has decayed. Rampant corruption, and the brain drain has indeed brought Pakistan in its darkest times, and it still continues to go forward into its dark time. Pakistan was indeed a beautiful, developed country in the 1950-1970s. A car with a large sprayer used to spray perfume into every corner of the city of karachi, a city which used to get awards for being the cleanest and modern, a world tourist destination. Alas, those times are long gone, and the once renowned, booming economic country, Pakistan of the 1950s-1970s is now a fantasy today.

Things are not the same and beautiful as it used to be in the 50s-90s, Pakistan has definitely been hollowed of its soul by its politicians. If you visit Pakistan, then be sure to visit its northern areas! These are the most beautiful parts of Pakistan, still untouched by the politicians. As for the Urdu, the politeness and suaveness of Urdu still exists, though in the older generations who were in the golden days of Pakistan. Please do visit someday! Make sure to take a tour guide! Maybe someday I'll be able to visit india once I get an international passport when I grow older

@@syedkhalid2993 thanks for your honesty. I can picture the Pakistan you describe above. I will visit the Northern valleys - Hunza, Muree. But I think I will also want to witness Lahore and Karachi. People tell me Karachi resembles Mumbai and Lahore Delhi. I want to verify that with my own eyes. Anyway, when I visit - if I ever do - I want to take it all in with no anticipation or biases. Travel always catches you off guard.

Mid 90s me 2 ads atay thay. Ik to polka/igloo cone jiski tag line this, "ik se bhalay 2"... aur dusra igloo ka king cone jis me ik guy harmonica pe tune bja raha hota "there is only 1 king". In ads ki beauty, elegance and coolness me na aj tak bhul saki hu. Aur sitara sapna k itnay shandar lawn ads atay thay aur kia pyari pyari models hoti thi.
