Old Pulteney 18 Year Old (No-Brainer?)

Great job fellas... I would like to know your thoughts on this one.. I'm a huge OP17 fan... I have held off from pulling the trigger on this 18 as the 17 was £75 here in the UK before it was discontinued OP rebranded We got the 18 however the price jumped to £115 for the extra year how does this square up to the 17...is it better is it worth the extra mula(£'s)... I stand by my own findings as I try different whiskys, older is just older and usually different, and can be better but not always. I am currently enjoying some 8 to 15 year old whiskys (and rums) and not feeling guilty spending as much as most 18 year + whiskys are going for now.

Well, I guess not every 18 year old Scotch is going to wow you, but the great thing is that there are so many out there. The price of the Old Pultney 18 is the same as the departed 17 so I would go for the older bottling at this point. Cheers gentlemen on excellent review!

I may reach for one by the time it gets to my locality, but I still have some old 17, an unopened bottle of the old 21, and a bottle of 2004 Single cask that I haven't cracked yet, so I'm good until the 18 gets here to Vancouver Island...

Another good review, and I'm with most here, 18 is certainly past that peak of improvement. Older can still be better, but not automatically. Seems that in the 10-15 year range, you can get some consistent improvement across most brands, but once you hit 18, the price goes up way faster than the typical quality does.

Interesting take on this one. I love OP, so I'm still intrigued. I'll probably start with the 15. I've got a few 17s bunkered to hopefully tide me over. And I'll be sad when they are gone.

The State of VA has discontinued OP from its line up. Not sure they will pick up the new line up. I am disappointed with the new line up. I heard the new OP 12 is dropping to 40%. Not sure why you would drop the OP 17 when it has won huge awards and is regarded so well other than to save money/cut costs. if the OP 18 is around $140 it is a little more expensive than the Glenlivet/Glenfiddich iin my area but much less than the Balvenie 17, Glendronach 18. Think OP is going in the wrong direction if they want to increase market share,

In Sweden AS the OLD PULTNEY was replaced by the new line up the prices were raised a lot for the oder expressions. The same when Balblai had their revamp. Quite sad to see.

It's an 18 that I wouldn't tend to lean towards. I feel as if there are better 18s out there (GlenDronach and SB specifically). Awesome review guys ✌

great review. old pulteney doesnt do it for me. think u get plenty of there great qualities from the12yo $40. i have the 21 that doesn't wow me for age n price difference. $130 for a non sherry bomb 18yo is steeeeeep also. Drew gave GG18 a 4 rating so some 18's do it for him,lol.

The best pultiney is the 25yo but it costs a fortune, and not much better then the 21

That's a relatively average difference between 18 yos and 15 yos.

Priced as some 21yo. Much lower quality then OP 21, not a bad whisky, but not good eather. Will not buy it for sure.

Old Pulteney 18...major bourbon bom just like anCnoc 18 and Craigellachie 17. Not alot of real scotch flavor.
