Old Quantum Lithonia Exit replaced with new Dual-Lite EVC series

Changing out an old second generation incandescent Quantum Lithonia combo exit. The years have not been kind to this sign and the charger assembly was no longer operating. Replacing this old energy hog is the Dual-Lite EVCURW series LED combo exit. Both the EXIT legend and the emergency lighting heads are illuminated with LED technology. The old Lithonia unit used traditional Lead Calcium batteries that were large and clunky. The new Dual-Lite unit uses an environmentally friendly, long life-cycle Lithium Iron Phosphate battery.

Thanks! This was at a Japanese restaurant that I specified a complete LED overhaul for. Most of the time the contractor on the job gets to upgrade the exits and emergency lights when I spec a relight. But this time he missed this sign and I got to jump back into the fold and change one out. Figured it would make for a fun video while I was at it.

But it's the new generation. incandescent exits are being out-dated because of the led exits. I know that led exit signs do better in a power outage. but the incandescent exit sign are history. Incandescent exit signs were the first generation before LEDs. But it's sad to see the genrice exit sign go

When I got my 1997 prescolite pex it had no heat damage it needed a new battery and then I put in Led light bulbs

Travis, I remember talking to you about this one several years ago, and I'm surprised it lasted this long! Even with the use of the C7 bulbs in this sign, that thing is baked on the inside. IIRC, that fixture dated from the mid-90's. 1997 was the first year they made those, and I think they were discontinued around the same time the third-gen Quantums were released in 2004. They should be happy with that EVCURW. The face is illuminated far more uniformly than the HQMSW3R/EL combo it replaced, and the LED heads will easily outdo the bi-pin halogen heads on the Lithonia. Those heads, IIRC, use the same 6 volt, 5.4 watt bulbs as the ELM2 of that era. You *could* cheat that battery to last a bit longer by throwing some 6 volt bi-pin LED bulbs in those sockets (which is what I've been experimenting with on some older Emergi-Lite fixtures in my collection I want to preserve), but it wouldn't be worth it in this case because the fixture is basically trashed due to heat damage.

Nice video I want to get both those signs for my collection and I did not know that the lithonia lighting exit sign had incandescent lights lighting up the exit sign part of it. Is that lithonia lighting a LHQM

Chevybay26 that is the LHQM's predecessor, the HQM. This model was intended to use 15t6 incandescent lamps, and like most signs of this age, the heat from the incandescent lamps had really weakened the structure of the sign.

Yeah, the whole thing was toast. On top of structural issues, the battery was dead and the charger assembly was no longer functional. Pretty typical for this sign of that era.

Good quality unit replaced with another good quality unit (Well second generation quantums have more fragile plastic but good performance. Third generation and current units has more durable plastic and good performance)

I didn't keep the one removed in the video. This one was too far gone structurally, and the electronics were shot. I have several units of this generation like it though, that are in much better condition.

You still collect? I do too but I only buy a couple a year when I find something really unique. Just recently bought an old light from the Chocolate Spa at the Hershey Museum in PA off eBay. I need to get mine sorted through, repaired, and wired up to I can flip a switch and turn them on with like a hardware store type grid display.
