Would be lovely to see that section opened up again, only main challenge would be crossing the road at Bridgnorth by rebuilding the bridge. Their main priority though is maintaining the current line but it's still a nice idea though, hope it happens before they decide to build another housing estate somewhere across the track bed. Another concern would be that the extension would take away attention from the other attractions at other stations like the engine house and also working out the timetable too.

I spent a few happy weekends working on the railway decades ago. I most remember polishing GWR 0-6-0 5764 in the evening sun, or rolling Flying Scotsman's spare tender wheels along the track by hand. One time I got a good lesson in LMS Black 5 design by moving a lot of steam dome and regulator parts into a container waggon. I actually saw the gubbings of the 'second valve' regulator, whose operation had always intrigued me, and moved a lot of Walschaerts Valve gear bits. It was one way to learn, and it wasn't exactly light weight either: only when you manually lift the various individual bits of locomotive, can your mind be set free to boggle at the power of expanding steam doing more than just froth the milk on your latte. I first came to Bridgenorth from a cycle show at Birmingham NEC and took my employee on a freebie to see the railway. We cycled via the Orbit cycle factory and Cyclo's Crown Works ( In Baltimore Road,Perry Barr ). When we got to Bridgenorth it suddenly pissed down: stairods like nobodies business and we got soaked. We grabbed the first B&B in town and the very nice landlady got one of us on a couch in the living room and the other in a twin sharing with a regular. We got a damn good meal too. And a damn good sleep. Imagine my utter surprise when I got awoke a.m. by a whopping great tram rumbling form underneath me like it had came out the room below. We were so exhausted and soaked that we had had no idea that the guest house was the station building for the cliff railway!

That short video is awesome, really love old railway lines especially with the platforms still present and other reminders along the way. Nice how the crossing and the signal has been kept at the road side and the coaches further along. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for video . I didn’t know this existed. I will certainly pay it a visit . We recently Walked one in the lakes district. Sadly flooding in 2015 took away an old bridge but still a lovely walk .

That line was closed in 1963, but its closure was planned before the Beeching report.

Excellent film, what a shame they closed it, can you cycle/walk the whole way?...

It shows how naïve Beeching was shutting most of the British lines. Now that there are too many cars on the roads.

It is located in the county of Shropshire, in the West Midlands region of England.

The Severn Valley line closed in 1962. Beeching's Report was 1963.

Thank you for the comment. Yes you can cycle all the way from Iron bridge to Bridgenorth. The entrance to the Bridgenorth railway tunnel is now closed.

I know it's been ten years but could you help me find the start of this ride and could you tell me if there are signs along the way many thanks
@Goorney4 жыл бұрын
The start is at the Iron bridge itself. Follow the path that runs alongside the River Severn until you reach the small town of Bridgnorth.

Thank you for the comment. The Iron bridge gorge area is most beautiful.

I went to bridgnorth and I saw the remains of the bridge that use to carry trains over the high street and into the tunnel to Shrewsbury mate until the the 1963 beeching cuts

Yu made a mistake about only working cliff railway towards-end because Lynton, Lynmouth where 1 village is at bottom of cliff an other at-top, in Devonshire, has a cliff railway, that as far as i know still operates.!!!!!

The funicular railway in Lynton is water powered. In this video it's specifically stated "inland electric" powered
