This is the Real Deal. I was of the lowrider mentality in the 60's. I lived in Lomita and attended Narbonne High in Harbor City just off Western Ave near Lomita Blvd. I wasn't old enough to make enough money to own a car while I was in high school. All my older buddies had barges, 53 Chevy Belair and 50 Chevy Deluxe rides. Jimmy Reed was the first Blues singer to "crossover" to main stream radio. The video and your rides are tops on the cool factor. Congrats. I'm 62 years young!

My father grew up in L.A. during the late 30s to early 60s. He remembers that there were lowriders in the late 40s but with no hydraulics of course. Lowriders seemed to have become more popular in the early 60s but it was still very much underground. That's also when the first hydraulics were developed, around '61. I think that's when people began lowrider clubs and cruising Whittier Blvd. I imagine that anyone that had a lowrider during the 50s and up until the 90s was harassed by LEOs. I remember seeing lots of lowriders pulled over by Sheriff's during the early 80s.

Glad you enjoyed my little video, those were some cool times and I can appreciate them now all the more. Wish I had shot more film but, unfortunatly, this is all there is. You can't go wrong documenting the present. Might seem unimportant now but down the road you find out that no one bothered so there's very little or nothing of the history recorded.

My name is Howard Gribble. I had a '67 Impala (in 1967) and a '66 Riviera (1969) and lived in North Torrance. The "Essentials" came along in the late '60s but they were mostly younger than me and I don't think I knew any of them personally.

I was watching the video and then I saw him riding on Avalon Blvd passing Opp street headed towards Denni Street... and I'm like that looks a lot like Wilmington. Later as I continued watching the video it was confirmed by his plaque stating he was from Wilmington. The palm trees lining Avalon Boulevard gave it away. AKA WILMAS ✌😁

Glad you dig it. Always interested in the off beat parts of history that don't usually get recorded, like the vids you have made. How about one on the LB Pike? Not the lame ass mall that's there now but the OG amusment park they tore down in the 1980s. Anyway, keep up the good work!

The owner told me that a couple of black guys from Compton did the front in 1967 and later he bought the pieces for the back and installed them himself. Recently posted more pics of this car to Flickr where I'm known as KID DEUCE.

Also proper placement for the Bellflower pipes are on the very edge of the rear quarter panel against the body level with the bottom of the panel on the outside of the body. . Not under the panel. Ruin the look there. But rest is like perfect.
