If ABC-TV had given Glen Larson the one year push back production date he needed,imagined how many seasons the show would be on the air.
@ThomasFishwick2 жыл бұрын
That wasn't the real problem. Sure ABC messed things up behind the scenes and rushed production, but their biggest mistakes were:- A: Insisting Sci-Fi was for kids and that Larson create Boxy and Muffet (A boy and his robot dog) to appeal to children. In the first 20 minutes we see a civilisation bombed into extinction, but don't worry about that kids. Here's a cute robot dog... and B: Larson envisaged Battlestar as a series of TV movies. Two hour long "events" which had scope. About two or three a year, each with high production values. ABC instead insisted it had to be a weekly series. That is why there were so many two parter stories, only they didn't increase the budget (which was already a lot to be honest). That meant stretching it, which is why we got so many filler episodes done on the (relative) cheap and the same six stock effects shots.
@GGGritzer2 жыл бұрын
@@ThomasFishwick, in the extras on my 13 disc DVD set from Amazon Germany (well worth having) there is a Q&A with Richard Hatch & he says the main problem was, they could not shoot an episode in 7 days which took the production over budget & as popular as it was, they still cancelled it. The show was pretty good as '70's space opera went. It wasn't doing bad in the ratings, but was extremely expensive to produce which is what did it in. Had today's technology which allows relatively inexpensive visual effect been around then, it probably would have lasted a few season.

I remember this part and it was really funny how Starbuck (Dirk Benedict) said about Purple and Orange Squadrons and on the bridge of the Galactica Athena looked at her father Commander Adama and said 'Father we're picking up attacking signals from Purple and Orange Squadrons we don't have Purple and Orange Squadrons' and Adama's reaction to that 'Purple and Orange' and Colonel Tigh's reaction 'Starbuck and Apollo' and they both looked at each other as Adama said 'Lord Help Them Both' and that was what was so funny about this episode the Galactica didn't have Purple and Orange Squadrons but the Cylons didn't know that.

@JENDALL7143 жыл бұрын
@@peepachu When they pitched the show, they knew they would have a better chance of selling the show if they named dropped Battlestar Galactica. A lot of reboots recently have used that tactic, name drop a classic show and sell it as a reboot, even though it has very little to do with the original show. It's a dirty way of selling a show and screws over the fans of the original show who want to see an actual reboot, not a reboot in name only. CHIPS, Bewitched, Land of the Lost all did this, reboot in name only. Starsky and Hutch was close, if they had not made it a comedy, it would have been better.

I disagree, They should redo SOME of the effects in the show. Particularly the scenes where the vipers are flying against the out of focus landscape - you know, the stuff that wouldn't have even passed back in 1978. Never assume that CGI remastering is good, sometimes it doesn't fit in visually and it often destroys the "nostalgia value" of the show.
