@@johanvanniekerk5261 how about JPR Williams, Martin Johnson, Jean Pierre Rives, Gareth Edwards, Brian O’Driscoll, Richard Hill, John Dawes…………..to name just a few, the list is long. I appreciate how good Danie Gerber could have been if he’d had a full international career, but only 13 of his 24 caps were against tier 1 nations/ full internationals. As nicely nostalgic as it is I think it does a disservice to put him in ahead of other great centres, based on very limited international evidence. Yeah, the NZ cavaliers. I was also in primary school. I had the Huis Genoot middle pages, with a team photo of both teams, on my way wardrobe doors. I was fascinated with Naas Botha and Grant Fox. As an 8 year old, I wondered if Grant was also baas like Oom Naas. Those were the days, though. The world was still a big place then. Danie Gerber would have been a legend in any era. He would still be a menace to any opposition today with that sort of pace. Danie, Naas Botha, Uli Schmidt (to name a few) inspired a lot of kids back in those days and would have been serious contenders at the '87 world cup. Who watched Zandberg Jansen late at night to hear his verdict on the game? I'm getting nostalgic here
